1. INTRODUCTION

Project is 200MWac (DT2) photovoltaic solar power plant located about 20km away
from Tay Ninh City to the northwest through Provincial Road No. 785 / DT785, about
80km away from Ho Chi Minh City. Existing traffic road to the project is relatively
convenient, and there is local road to the site area.

Location of the project is shown in an image below.

2. OBJECTIVE OF METHOD STATEMENT

The objective of this method statement is to describe the procedures of extraction of

damaged and obstructed piles.

3. SCOPE OF WORK
This procedure covers the general process of extraction and redriving of damaged,
failed or obstructed piles.

4. EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS
 Total Stations (Accuracy ± 5”, 2mm+2mm*10-6 * D,“D”means the distance from
bench mark to setting-out point, and its unit is millimeter )
 Level Meter (Accuracy ±2mm)
 GPS(Accuracy ± (10mm+1mm*10-6*D , “D”means the distance from bench mark to
setting-out point, and its unit is millimeter)
 Inclination Meter(Accuracy ± 0.1°)
 Excavator
 Crane
 Tractor (to remove piles and materials)
 Pile pressing equipment (Ramming piles into the ground)
 All the calibration certificates of survey tools will be submitted at site.
 GPS will be used frequently to make sure the location of piles and will be calibrated
by Total Station on site.

5. PROCEDURE
5.1 Extraction of damaged piles:
Any piles damaged during the process of driving to an extent that they can’t
be used to support the structure any further shall be removed/ extracted
from the place to replace with suitable pile.
Extraction is done in manner to ensure that pile extracting machine clamp
the pile vertically and vibrations on the pile axis shall be performed to make
the extraction smooth and overcome soil friction.
Ensuring the verticality, pile shall be removed from the place and the bore
shall be backfilled with the existing ground material.
After filling the bore, another pile shall be driven again following the pile
driving process.

5.2 Preboring of obstructed Piles:

If a pile can’t be driven to the specified pile tip depth, preboring shall be
done using the auguring method. Pile shall be extracted using the machine,

keeping the verticality. After extraction, auger drilling machine of diameter
less than 300mm shall be used to drill upto the desired depth. Lesser
diameter of the augur i.e 270mm shall ensure that soil at 300mm dia remain
intact and undisturbed. Verticality of the bore shall be kept to avoid any
future problem in alignment. Once preboring is done, required pile shall be
driven again following the pile driving method.
To verify the quality 3 no. of selected piles shall be tested for lateral load.

5.3 Removal of failed piles:

Any pile failed to achieve the desired results in load testing shall be
removed by the extraction method and replaced with the suitable pile of
better quality according to the method discussed earlier in 5.1.

5.4 Piles of less embedded length:

Piles of embedded length 3.5m have a certain factor of safety already
applied in calculation, after recalculation it was found that there was an
FOS of 2.49 for embedded length of 3.3m. Any pile having embedded
length of less than 3.3m shall be removed and replaced with the pile of
greater length in a way that the place shall be backfilled and larger pile shall
be driven again.
Calculation of FOS for the embedded length at 3.3m shall be submitted.

5.5 Repair of damaged piles:

Piles having cracks of maximum 2mm shall be repaired according to repair
method in ACI 224.2R, epoxy Injection method shall be done using a
material satisfying ASTM C-881 i.e Sikadur 752.
Epoxy Injection method shall not be used for the piles having cracks
parallel to the axis of pile because those are detrimental for the element.

6. HEALTH, SAFETY AND ENVIROMENT

Full care and precaution shall be given by field management for safety and sanitation
of the workmen in field to prevent accident during the execution of work. One of main

aspects of this procedure is safety and health control. This is to control prevention of
incidents, personal injuries as well as damaged to equipment and properties during the
entire construction period. In order to ensure a safety working environment during the
entire construction period, the following safety measures shall be implemented as
follow:
6.1 Health, safety analysis
Administrative control shall be applied for use to reduce potential of heat stress
e.g. provision rest shelter recovery area or stand by vehicle for each group.
Each worker shall be provided with drinking water during hot weather
conditions during working hours.
All worker shall be provide with and wear personal protective equipment
(PPE): safety helmet, safety glasses, safety shoes and long sleeve shirt. When
working at height full body harness should be provide.
All equipment and hand tools shall be checked in good working condition
daily before use, handmade tools are unacceptable.
15 minutes prior to works finish time, all working areas shall be clean of all
debris and disposed of designated garbage containers or areas provided by
project.
The scaffold after installation should be check carefully by qualified personal.
All hot work (welding, gas cutting) should be provided fire extinguisher.
6.2 Environment
All diesel generator, portable machine shall have oil spill pan located to contain
any oil spilled.
Toilet with urinal and wash area shall be provided.
