Objective:
 To learn about what kind of test perform on materials in RTL.
 What type of procedure in RTL when we sent sample is they pass or rejected, what kind of
objection and there further solution?
 Is this lab for only government sample testing or for local citizens.

Introduction of RTL
Regional testing lab is basically constructed in Pakistan by contract with Japan and its new name
is high voltage and short circuit test lab. After establishing the lab japan find the institution that
take control of this lab so, they afflicted this lab with WAPDA and then WAPDA handled this lab
to their sub company that is NTDC.
It lab is surrounded in vast place in which 132KV grid station, Steam power plant and HV& SC
lab, there are there major department in RTL which perform test on sample Accordance to
elements, these three departments are given as.
 Mechanical lab.
 Chemical lab.
 Electrical lab.
We can explain the steps by detail when government issues a public notice about new project then
the person select the tender and start working on it also for certain time period person capable to
complete in particular time that issued by company, when 50% then inspection person of lab
collect the test and now time is perform test on material correspondence to department. After the
test is completed then its ratting measured according to standard ratting if they fulfill the standard
then it passed otherwise rejected. If it is passed then allow the person to complete the project or
otherwise person has not allow to work on it.
It is important to note that if any sample is not manufacture accordance to standard then it
dangerous for equipment in which they use also harmful impact on human life because due to its
low quality It sudden break or fracture with time passage.so test is directly related to time .RTL
test the sample by passing it certain time if they don’t distract, deform, break etc. then they passed
the test. Also the important thing every local citizen sent there sample to lab for their testing
material .

The following equipment available at correspondence department as motioned three departments
we can go through main equipment’s at RTL which are given as.
Now we will discuss the equipment available at Machenical department that is given as.
 Horizontal Tensile Machine.
 Vertical Tensile Machine.
 Oven.
 Workshop.
Now we will discuss the equipment available at Electrical department that is given as.
 HT/LT connector heat cycle.
 Gloves testing Machine.
 Insulation test machine.
 High voltage tester Machine.
Now we will discuss the equipment available at Chemical department that is given as.

Detail of Test Performed at RTL

There are total three sections which is used to perform all the tests on every single part which are
being used in the electrical equipment. These parts are from small bolts to very big machines like
transformers parts. Each and every part will be tested separately under ideal conditions.
These sections include:
 Chemical section.
 Mechanical section.
 Electrical section.

Chemical Section:
In chemical section, small parts of the electrical machines are dipped into chemicals for testing.
These tests include:
 Zinc coating test.
 Adherence test.
 Loss of mass test.
 Water absorption test.
 Shrinkage test
 Flash point test
 Specific gravity test
 Acidity test
 Season cracking test
 Moisture and density test.
 Pressure head test
 Flammability te4st.
 Temperature cycle test.
 Copper purity test.
 Uniformly te4st.
 Porosity test.

Mechanical Section:
In Mechanical Section, big parts of the electrical machines are used to test the purity and hardness
of these materials. These tests include;
 Horizontal tensile test.

 Indentec hardness test.

 Tires and tube tests (barrel truck machine).
 Aging oven tests.

Electrical Section:
In Electrical Section, both big and small parts of the electrical machines are used to test the purity
and hardness of these materials. These tests include;
 DC resistance test.
 Insulation Resistance test.
 Break down voltage test.
 Resistivity test.
 Puncture voltage test.
 Performance test.
 Temperature rise test.
 Accuracy test.
 High voltage test.

Conclusion and Recommendations

We learn the most important thing in RTL is that when we design new projects we can sent all
components to lab for their chemical, mechanical and electrical tests. With the help of these tests
our components is accordance to standard requirements. Also the staff in RTL is very
cooperative they briefly explain the every test and its purpose.
This visit is very help full for our speclized stream mean power and we also enjoy the visit and
also hope in future we will visit these places.
