The History of Scrabble

James Brunot

 Renamed the game "scrabble"
 He is the one who published scrabble.

1948 - The name scrabble which means to "grope frantically" was trademarked.

1949- James Brunot made 2,400 sets of scrabble and lost $450.

1950's- James Straws which is the President of Macy's department store discovered
the game and ordered some for his store.

1952- The game was licensed in 1952 to the well established manufacturing firm
Selchow and Righter Company for marketing and distribution in North America.

1972- The Selchow and Righter company eventually purchased the trademarked
from James Brunot.

1986- In 1986 the Selchow and Righter company purchased by Coleco

1989- Then later on, the Coleco was then acquired by Hasbro.

2000- The introduction of the first ever multiplayer online version.
