PROPOSAL

What form of production do you intend on producing? (short film, music video, stop
motion animation, documentary)

I and Callan Wintle are going to create a music video together for an up and
coming musician/songwriter. It is an original slow pop song. It will in a live
environment showing the behind the scenes including camera setups, lighting rigs
and crew working whilst recording the singer in the centre The video will change
between the video from the camera lens recording the artist to the tech crew
working live. We are aiming to create a professional environment, showing it as a live
performance which might be live on air for the BBC for example. That is the idea of
the video that we are trying to match.

Based on the performances in your previous units, what areas do you need to
improve on this time round?

I need to focus on using a wide range of shots and creative camera angles such as
tracking, pan and still. This will increase my familiarity with varied techniques. I will
also use different locations to improve my storytelling such as the contrast of a
filming studio and a restaurant/bar. I think I need to improve overall on everything
including lighting, moving shots, narrative and editing. Editing should be easier this
time as we are using longer shots all focusing on the same subject. Syncing the
cameras is very important and editing from there is pretty straightforward.

Why have you chosen this production? What visual based skills do you feel it will
help you to develop?

I feel this project will greatly improve the way I consider and utilize lighting as that will
be the main focus of our production- using effective lighting for pleasing shots and
adding information to the narrative. It will also give me the chance to experiment
with different camera shots and equipment (mostly lighting, smoke machines and
dollies). Camera steadiness will be extremely important and I will keep on top of that
by using equipment like tripods, shoulder mounts and dollies to help stabilize the
camera, especially when moving.

Will you be working individually or as part of a 2 person team? Why have you
chosen this?

I am working in pairs with Callan Wintle because he already has a lot of knowledge
about lighting and has access to a lot of lighting equipment and knows how to use
and set it all up. I have sourced this musician and have the camera equipment that
we will use. We both have different ideas creatively and think that we would work
well as a team to bring those ideas together and make them work well, producing a
good music video. We both have access to different venues e.g. studios and pubs
which we could use as locations for our visuals. We will also keep each other in
check in case our ideas become too unrealistic and too ambitious-
we will do well to keep it realistic. We are comfortable with giving
each other constructive criticism and will work well together, meeting
deadlines and producing high quality work. We will help to improve
each other’s weaknesses and use our strengths together, having the
other take charge whilst teaching. I think we will make a very
professional duo. However, Callan’s organizational skills aren’t to par, so I will help
him work on that and encourage him to be more organized and not let it affect my
work.
