the site

The hostel blocks are arranged overlooking a courtyard and close to the sports facilities

taller structures to reduce visibility as they are purely functional buildings.

Access
Pedestrian routes
The site has been developed in phases leading to long distances between various blocks.
These walkways are not defined/shaded. Most of the pedestrian traffic moves along the
road in front of the blocks.

Vehicular routes
The vehicular routes have been kept along the shorter edges of the site where it also has its
entrances linked. However, in phase 1 only one gate is operational and is highly convenient
as its located on the further end of the site
Open spaces
The site is vast and huge expanse of land is left for future development. the greens along
the front of the academic block
Open spaces
The site is vast and huge expanse of land is left for future development. The greens along
the road Infront of the main buildings are used efficiently and successfully. They connect the
various zones i.e. residential to academic etc.
The part of land in front of the academic block is unused mainly because of the land use.
Most of the open spaces are undefined with green landscaped lawns and walkways without
any change or variety in the usage of space

Site edge
The site shares its boundary with GB pant college on one side an unauthorized colony on the
other and open green space at one of its edges.
The site has no interface with the city has hence is bound by a boundary wall.
As part of phase 1, the site has only one access which is highly inefficient. The site edge is
not porous and does not engage with the surrounding.

Built form
The buildings are mostly linear with little or no ornamentation
The heights of the buildings vary from G+4 to g+10 storeys.
The academic blocks are clad in sandstone

The passageway in the academic block has stone jaalis which keep the place shaded and
cool during summers vertical shading devices help shield the south- west sun.
TERI UNIVERSITY
Location: Teri university is located in vasant Kunj industrial area , New Delhi. It is bound by
the ridge on one side and an institute on the other side.
Site area - 2 acres

Built up – 800sqm

Ground coverage: 20%

FAR – 1
Land use
The building has been clearly zoned into following
Academic
The upper half is academic with the labs, classrooms on the ground and first floor and
library on the second floor
Administration
The admin building lies to the southern side with the reception on the ground floor and
offices on the upper floors.
Housing
The housing block has been zoned at the rear end of the site with its own access and greens

Access
The building has the shorter edge along the road proving only one access point
Pedestrian routes
The main pedestrian path is along the central spine that extends into the open-air theatre at
the back. The circulation is kept minimum with the corridors looking onto the central open
space and bridges connecting the upper levels spanning across the open space below.
Vehicular Routes
Vehicular access is along he periphery of the site with the basement parking. The road along
the edges double up as the service access road as the building looks inward.
Open space
The campus has a central open space which transitions from a circulation space into an OAT
and a stepped sit out at the end.
The open space has a sense of scale and has activities overlooking into it from the upper
floors.it remains shaded at various times of the day ensuring activities throughout.
A part of the driveway serves as a half basketball court and is occupied by the students at
different times of the day.
But as a result of the angular built form, a lot of under-utilized open spaces are generated.
The rear spaces facing the residential block is unused and the front porch which would
double up as parking in case of events is also underutilized.
Site edge
The site has little relation with the city because of its location and street edge. The site is
cut off from the city and hence has no city interface.it is located in an underdeveloped
institutional zone.
The shorter edge that aligns the main street is only access point and hence the only porous
edge. All other sides are lined with boundary walls.
Solar shading
The buildings are oriented to minimize the east and west facing surfaces
The building is oriented north south
A system of louvres is provided on these walls as shading devices on the south west facades
Air
The predominant wind direction is taken into account while designing the open spaces. The
hot from outside moves into the central court where it passes over the water body and
fountain. The air thus gets humidified and cooler. This makes the central atrium always
cooler than the surrounding.
