1. Name of invention?

Glasses, also known as eyeglasses or spectacles, are vision aids, consisting of glass or hard
plastic lenses mounted in a frame that holds them in front of a person's eyes, typically utilizing a
bridge over the nose and arms which rest over the ears.

Glasses are typically used for vision correction, such as with reading glasses and glasses used
for nearsightedness. Safety glasses provide eye protection against flying debris for construction
workers or lab technicians; these glasses may have protection for the sides of the eyes as well as in
the lenses.

2. Why was is invented?

There are many dilemmas about invention of glasses. According to some sources the invention of
the first wearable pair of eyeglasses occurred in the 13th century in Italy. Salvino D'Armate probably
invented eyeglasses in around 1285, though various sources suggest an earlier origin. In the 14th
century, Venetian craftsmen were making "disks for the eyes"'. Italians gave these glass disks that
were finely ground the name lenses because they were similar in shape to lentil beans. The earliest
lenses were convex, the bulged outward in the middle, and they were used to correct far-sightedness.

In 1451 Nicholas of Cusa in Germany produced eyeglasses to aid people who were near-sighted
using concave lenses that were thinner at the center and thicker at the ends. The modern style of
eyeglasses frame, which could be placed over the ears and nose, was invented in 1727 by British
optician Edward Scarlett. American scientist and philosopher Benjamin Franklin is credited with the
invention of bifocals, dividing his lenses for distant and near vision. Sir George Biddle Airy, an English
astronomer and mathematician, invented glasses to correct astigmatism in 1827.

3. How did it benefit society?

Glasses provide accurate and predictable vision correction. Eyeglasses reliably correct your
vision to within 0.50 dioptre of the desired correction. Glasses are less expensive than contact
lenses or surgery. They are easier to take care of than contact lenses. Glasses have had a good
impact in the world because without them i wouldn't even be able to see what i'm typing right now.
Glasses are an amazing impact. Classifying glasses would be for a medical resoultion.
