AICTE-UKIERI Technical Leadership Programme

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS | LAST DATE FOR ENTRIES | 30th September, 2018

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is a statutory body established
by an Act of Parliament with a view to proper planning and coordinated development of the
Technical Education system throughout the country, the promotion of qualitative
improvement of such education in relation to planned quantitative growth and the
regulation and proper maintenance of norms and standards in the technical education
system and for matters connected therewith.
UK India Education Research Initiative (UKIERI) started in April 2006 with the
aim of enhancing educational links between India and the UK. It has been recognized as a key
multi stakeholder programme that has strengthened the educational relations between the
two countries and been successful in covering all segments of the education sector.
UKIERI is funded from the UK by Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy,
Foreign and Commonwealth Office, British Council, Scottish Government, Welsh
Government and Department for Economy; and from India by Ministry of Human Resource
Development, Department for Science and Technology, Ministry of Skill Development and
Entrepreneurship, University Grants Commission and All India Council for Technical
Education.
AICTE signed an implementation agreement with Department for Business, Energy and
Industrial Strategy (DBEIS), UK on 06th September, 2016 for the joint operation of the
activities under UK India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI) Phase-III.

About the Programme


Leadership and Faculty Development is a strategic priority for both the countries, India and
UK to encourage joint learning, share best practices and develop institutional mechanisms
for sustained improvement. This is why Leadership is a key focus area of UKIERI - III. Under
this the Council will give training to 500 aspiring leaders for AICTE approved institutions/
Polytechnics for the Leadership development program in the next 05 years.

Objective of the Programme


Accredited by Charted Management institute (CMI), the nominated team of an Institution
will undertake training in a specialist workshop. Post the training workshop, the participants
will work on a “Change Project” within their organization, allowing them to put into practice
the leadership and management skills they are developing through this training.
The enhancement of the Change Project is expected to lead to considerable immediate
impact at the institutional level.
About the Participants
The participants should be the senior faculties from AICTE approved Institutes or
polytechnic. With an aim to have effective organization-wide management, the Programme
is aimed at giving staff in middle-management positions more advanced leadership skills and
laying the foundation for long-term sustainability within the participating institutions.

Delivery Partner - Dudley College, UK


UKIERI Board has shortlisted Dudley college, UK for conduction of leadership Development
Program under Phase-III. Established in 1862 as the “Dudley Institute”, Dudley College, UK
has a 165-year history of providing education and training that underpins the regional,
national and global economy. Delivering high quality vocational education and training at an
international level, the college delivers training to over 12,000 learners, as well as meeting
the training needs of a diverse employer base.

Training Methodology
Under the Leadership development program in the AY 2017-18, four workshops were
conducted in a year. These delegates will be split into smaller groups for group work, etc.
The delegates work towards acquiring the leadership skills and shall involve independent
task & assignments. Successful completion of the Change Project and a written assignment
will allow each delegate of the team to receive the CMI Level 5 Certificate in Leadership and
Management.

Detail about 1st Round of Training


AICTE had successfully completed 1st batch of “Leadership & Management program” for
100 faculties of AICTE approved Technical Institutions in AY 2017-18. Four workshops were
conducted for the participants at different parts of the country. The successful participants
were also issued certificates by Charted Management Institute (CMI).

Inviting Application for 2nd Round of Training

The AICTE and British Council has agreed to train 200 delegates under the Leadership &
Management program in the Academic year 2018-19. The participants from AICTE
approved institutes/ Polytechnics can apply either individually or in the form of institutional
teams, comprising of no more than 03 participants from each institute.
Details about the workshops
In the AY 2018-19, three workshops will be conducted. The tentative timeline for
Leadership development program is as under: -

Eligibility Criteria for applying under AICTE-UKIERI Technical Leadership
Programme (2018-19)

1. Delegate should either be a Principal/ Dean or a Senior faculty /Aspiring official in an


AICTE approved Institution/ Polytechnic.
2. Delegate should have at least 10 years of relevant experience.
3. Preferred age of participants is between 35-50 years.
4. The participants can apply either individually or in the form of team, comprising of
no more than 03 participants from each institute.
5. An institutional team should have at least one female delegate.
6. The delegate agrees to complete any assessment requirements (particularly the
Change Project) in order to be accredited by CMI.
7. The delegate should understand that the programme will be delivered in English.
8. The delegate/ team need to identify the area in which they wish to implement
measurable change.
9. Applicants who have participated in similar Workshop under UKIERI/VELT/One
week residential programme under PMKVY-TI are advised not to apply for
Leadership Programme in UKIERI-III.
10. No change of team member will be entertained once nomination is accepted.

Selection Criteria
The short listing of the applicants for Leadership and Management Programme will be done
by a duly constituted Committee of members from AICTE and British Council.

The details or regulations are subject to change at the discretion of the joint Committee
of AICTE and British Council.
