with manipulatives and any other aids to assist them in solving the word problems. If possible, I would like to
get other teachers involved so that it becomes a classroom competition.
Lesson idea implementation:
My selected technological tool that I am using will supplying me with the appropriate items I need for my
scavenger hunt. I will introduce the scavenger hunt game through a PowerPoint that I will make on my own. I
will explain the rules and tell the students exactly how they receive points for the game. I will give my
students the entire math period duration to complete this activity. I will be assessing the students learning
based on the photos of their work at each scavenger hunt station. The students will use their iPad to take a
picture of their final product, and this picture will then be sent to me.
The students will progress through the scavenger hunt as they solve the answers correctly. There will be no
specific strategy that has to be used. If they solve it correctly, they will be given the next clue to the next place
they have to go. I will extend this lesson by having the students, in their assigned groups, create their own
scavenger hunt in relation to the class content. I will conclude the class by having each group come up and
share their answers and photos from activity. By reviewing the answers with the class, I can give the
appropriate feedback that is needed, but also address any misconceptions that groups may have faced when
carrying out this activity.
Reflective Practice: I feel this activity helps students to enjoy carrying out the math problems. By making this
scavenger hunt a fun competition between groups, it allows them to focus on getting the correct answer so
that they can move through from one clue to the next. I designed this lesson so that it would take place after
students have had a lot of practice with adding and subtracting fractions. I could have my students use the
document camera to then share their answers and what they found throughout their scavenger hunt when
we wrap up the class.
