Fossil fuels are hydrocarbons, primarily coal, fuel oil or natural gas, that are formed from

the remains a dead plants and animals according to ScienceDaily. Fossil fuels are essential to us
because it is our source of energy. Fossil fuels is our primary energy source in whole wide world.
but it is also harm us because when you burn fossil fuels in will be converted to carbon dioxide
and that carbon dioxide will become a green-house gas. Because first of all fossil fuels came from
dead animals and plants from the word fossil that means it is long dead. This dead plants and dead
animals can replenish and it will take as a lot of time to replace it.
COAL
It is a black combustible rock that is made up of elements carbon, hydrogen, oxygen,
nitrogen, and varying amount of sulfur and used to generate electricity. Coals is a non- renewable
energy sources that fall under fossil fuels. Coals are formed from the remains of plants that has
been dead million years ago. Among the fossil fuels, coal is the least expensive for the amount of
energy that it gives. The amount of energy released when coal is burned is directly proportional to
the amount of carbon that is within the coal. Coals is also essential to create energy.
According to iea.org that India has the largest consumption from 2016-2017 followed by
Korea, Russia, China, and Indonesia. While the other 1st world country like the US has been lesser
because they are transitioning to use renewable energy sources. It also said that the consumption
of coal for the next 5 years will still be stable because other countries like US doesn’t use it now
that often because of renewable resources and natural gas, although natural gas is considered as
fossil fuel.
Coals are being burned into a furnace and that heats the water in the boiler. That steam
with high pressure and high temperature forces the turbine blades to turn and it also turns
electromagnet inside a copper coil inside a generator, and that produces the flow of electrons
which is electricity. A standard 500-megawatt coal power plant has an annual production of 3.5
billion kWh. Power plants are usually located away from the cities because it needs a vast area of
land.
PETROLEUM
Petroleum is also one of our non-renewable gases. Petroleum can be found beneath lands
and ocean floors. They extract this using large drilling machines. Petroleum’s used for many ways.
They are used to make gasolines. Petroleum is usually black to brownish color but in changes color
depending on the chemical. According to national geographic hen petroleum is burned into energy
it releases a large amount of carbon dioxide and other toxic gases that will become a greenhouse
gas. They will heat the petroleum then it is connected to a column in there the components of the
petroleum are already been separated, and that components are: LPG, Naphtha, Kerosene, Diesel,
Fuel Oil, Extra crude oils explained by the company Repsol.
Petroleum is important because we use this everyday in our life. That’s why it is high in
demand, because all of our vehicle’s energy gas come from petroleum which is gasoline. Fuel oils
are also made for heating and electricity generation.
NATURAL GAS
Natural Gas are sources that is made up of gases rich in hydrocarbons mostly methane
found in the atmosphere. It can also be found in underground rocks, which have tiny spaces that
allows it to hold the water, natural gas or oil that is trapped underground until it is extracted.
Natural Gas can also be formed when the layers of decomposed plant and animals are exposed to
extreme heat and pressure under the surface of the earth.
ADVANTAGES
 Well Developed
Fossil Fuels advantage is that it is way cheaper than other energy resources. It is also our
number one source of energy. It is the start of the process of our progress. Fossil Fuels is also
readily available unlike other energy source. Fossil fuel is also reliable in every aspect of energy
we need. It is also reliable source of energy not like wind and solar, because solar is inconsistent,
inefficient, and cannot meet the electricity demand, also sunlight is not available all the time.

 Cheap and Reliable

All that the technology that we are using is well develop to harness the energy in fossil fuels.
This is also why fossil fuels is powering the world for many decades already. All that we are having
right now can’t be possible without fossil fuels. The price in fossil fuels is low or it is suitable for
us.
DISADVANTAGE
 Contribution in Global Warming
The carbon and other toxic gases that are being release when these resources are being
burned is being contributed to the greenhouse gases. That is why global warming is also one of
the causes.
 Non-renewable
Fossil fuels are not a renewable energy source. Fossil fuels cannot be easily replenished it
will take us a lot of time, because fossil fuels are just a remain of plants and animals that died
million years ago. Not like renewable energy sources that can easily be replenish or means this can
sustain in a very long time.
