ELAGSE8L5: Demonstrate understanding of figurative language, word relationships, and nuances in word
meanings. a. Interpret figures of speech (e.g. verbal irony, puns) in context.

problems in ways that leverage the power of technological methods to develop and test solutions.
Introduction: We will, as a class, have read Harper Lee’s “To Kill a Mockingbird” in its
entirety. We will have discussed themes, literary devices, and central ideas in the text. This
will be used as a fun review activity probably before a unit test.
Instruction/Activities: I will explain to the students what Gimkit is and how they will use it.
The quiz will be ready by the time students come into class and the code to join the game
will be projected onto the board, so they know that is the first thing we are doing that day.
The students will play for about 15 minutes and every student will know all the answer to
the questions by the time we are done.
Final Product: There will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. These winners will get a small
amount of bonus points on their test. I will be there for class discussion after they have all
finished and we will go over if any of the students have questions about the questions on
the Gimkit or if they have any other questions about the text.
Evaluation or deliverable: The data of how well the students preformed on the Gimkit will
be saved on Gimkit and made available to be seen by me. I will use the information from

the data to see if there are any more concepts that we need to go over regarding the
material in the Gimkit before they take their unit test. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will get a few
bonus points (1st=3 points, 2nd=2 points, 3rd= 1 point) and all students will be expected to
participate.
Reflective Practice
This activity can be made public on Gimkit and as long as the “kit” or quiz is set to be public any
teacher can look it up and use it in their classroom. I could enhance this activity by making it
where the questions in the Gimkit are questions that the class has created themselves. This
would have the students be operating on the highest level of Bloom’s Taxonomy.
