EFFECTIVESNESS OF 8:00AM CUT-OFF/ CLOSING OF GATE TO

THE SELECTED STUDENTS OF COLEGIO DEL SAGRADO CORAZON
DE JESUS

CHAPTER 1

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

This study attempts to answer the question “Is the

8:00am closing of gate really effective”.

Several studies have shown that being tardy has a negative impact on
learning outcomes. By the mere nature of arriving late and missing
school hours; students receive fewer hours of instruction than
student whom are in class when the bell sounds. (Calaarella, 2011)

Teachers or advisers are also affected by the

tardiness of the student. They are frustrated in giving the
instruction again and again to whoever comes late. A quantitative
approach is our strategy to get the result.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This study aimed to determine the satisfaction rate

of students to the existing school policy which is the “8:00am cut-
off/closing of gate”

1. Is the policy favorable to the student of Colegio del Sagrado

Corazon de Jesus?

2. Does it help the student to be early in coming to school?

3. What are the other alternative policy aside from this?

CHAPTER 2

REVIEW IN RELATED LITERATURE

Tardiness is defined as “coming, arriving, occurring or remaining

after the correct, usual or expected time; delayed (The Free Dictionary,
2003). In today’s generation, the phenomenon of tardiness became a daily
routine of some students. Therefore, tardiness can broadly be defined as
missing time over a course of school days.

In this literature will state the reasons why students go to

school late. First, they go to bed late or they are staying late playing on
their phones. Second, they have difficulty in going up early in the morning.
Third, they are de-motivated to come to school. Fourth, the school location
is far from their homes. Lastly, they are making excuses jut not to go to
school early. (Alio,2003).

Some factors are age, gender location, (Chiu Mochi, 1993). Many
students go to school late especially students in the middle school and most
of them are males because of this, it became also the reason of absenteeism
of most students. The school conducts a punishment which is the closing of
gate at 8:00 am, if anyone did not come on time will be sent home and their
subject teachers will mark their record as absents. Teachers and researcher
are looking for the best solution for the students who are always late and
how they can manage their time correctly so that students will avoid
tardiness or they won’t be late anymore in their class.

Research Design

This study will use a quantitative survey method to

gather all the data that we need. The main focus of this study is the
experiences of the students who have been sent home due to tardiness
from grades 7 to grade 12 of Colegio del Sagrado de Jesus.

Respondents

The respondents of our research will be the students

who have been sent home from grades 7 to 12.

Methods

This research will use a survey in a quantitative

technique to gather information and data in Effectiveness of 8:an
cut-off/closing of gate to the selected students of Colegio del
Sagrado Corazon de Jesus.

Survey data is define as the resultant data that is

collected from a sample of respondents that took a survey (Bhat,2019)

Therefore, the researchers used a questionnaire that

will allow the respondents to answer the questions and in selecting
the respondents to answer the question to gather data for this
research study through a survey.

gate.

Data Collection Procedure

The first step is we will get our topic approved,

second we will work on the papers where in it is stated there that we
