Peer assessment is the process where students grade their classmate’s tests or assignments

based on what their instructor have given them about the grading strategies. University of the

People also practice peer assessment students grade their peers discussion posts, assignments,

as well as replying to their post. The University of the People have students from more than

190 countries so they have their own way of learning, assessing if they used to do it in their

previous class, and so many other differences. But the students are able to come in to one

idea when they asses their peers thanks to the grading instructions the instructors give to all

the students so this make sort of some unity between the students they can work for one goal.

Instructor will assess every assignment, discussion, and any other activities on their own if

not for the peer to peer assessing so it save time for the instructors as well as students to

receive their feedback as soon as possible. When one tries to give feedback or asses another

students work then he must read it which gives him/her an opportunity to learn from different

posts or assignments because not all of them are the same. Students develop their critical

thinking when they are assessing their student because they will have to go through all the

steps whether the students to be assessed answered the questions what the instructor is

expecting from them, are the answers relevant to the topic, do the students meet the word

count and they develop a lifelong assessing skills also.

Some of the advantages of peer assessments are they empower students responsibility for and

managing their own learning, enable students to learn to asses and give others constructive

feedback to develop lifelong assessment skills, enhance students learning through knowledge

diffusion and exchanging of ideas, motivate students to engage with course materials more

deeply.

There are challenges while giving feedback to peer assessments students give feedback to

students based on their personal feeling towards them whether it is hate or love , students

give the same mark to all the peers they asses, they don’t feel like doing it so they asses their

peers without concern.

There is challenges students face while receiving feedback. Students do not know what to say

so they write wrong feedback like their post is not good so the peers are required to change

the post or the assignment even if that is not necessary. Students face difficulties dealing with

their emotions receiving their feedback from other peers. Some students write discouraging

words in their feedback so the other students receiving that feedback can feel discouraged

about their work.

Strategies I use to assess peer written assignments are I give feedback because giving

feedback is crucial to writing development it will give them the power to continue their way

of writing or try to make changes it based on your feedback and I make sure these feedbacks I

am giving are dependent on the learning goals as well as the main purpose of the assignment.

I will assess discussion assignments base on the question of the discussion they will direct me

to see whether the discussion posts are relevant to the topic, did they explained every asked

questions, have they meet the word counts and finally I will give them feedback of thing they

need to change or thing they need to continue using.
