Point of Control
Point of Control is used to move the operational responsibility between users and
locations. This feature can be used to move the operational responsibility to a
central control room during night shift and back to the local control rooms during
day shift.
Point of Control uses the 800xA security features to assign, enforce, and move the
responsibility. The responsibility is moved by a set of interaction dialogs performed
during the responsibility transfer.
18 2PAA106188-510
Section 2 Functionality Changes New Functions
When changing the Point of Control, the following settings are changed:
• The security settings (defines what interaction that is allowed).
• Alarm and event lists filtering.
Alarm Analysis
The Alarm Analysis function is an effective alarm management function that allows
operators to monitor the quality of alarm system. It includes measurement and
presentation of the following key performance indicators in graphical elements and
reports:
• Number of Active, Unacknowledged, Hidden, and Shelved alarms
• Alarm rates and Average, Max number of alarms per hour
• Average time to acknowledge alarms
• Percentages of alarms above Acceptability level (user defined)
• Percentages of alarms above Intense level (user defined)
• 20 most frequent alarms
• 20 alarms that were active for the longest time
• 20 still active alarms that were active for the longest time
• Runtime distribution of alarm priorities
Alarm Shelving
Shelving is a facility where operators can shelve nuisance or standing alarms for a
specified time. By “Shelving” an alarm, the alarm is temporarily removed from the
alarm list.
The following are the two modes available to shelve an alarm:
• Standard shelving: Alarm is removed from the alarm list during a user-
defined time and then appears again in the alarm list.
• One-shot shelving: Alarm is removed from the alarm list until it disappears.
Shelved alarms can always be accessed in a separate alarm list.

Function Designer
In 800xA 5.1, Function Designer has been modified to provide improved
engineering efficiency. Menu options and toolbars in Function Designer have been
optimized and redefined to reduce complex engineering efforts.
Enhanced error tracking, configuration data generation performance, reduced code
block sorting loops, and standardized XML interfaces are also implemented to
improve the performance of Function Designer. 800xA 5.1 introduces the Diagram
and inter-application communication features to simplify the integration of Function
Designer with Control Builder M (CBM).

22 2PAA106188-510
Section 2 Functionality Changes Function Designer
• Communication Variables:
– Used to connect various diagrams that are available within the same or
different applications, controllers, and aspect directories.
– Supported on the parent level of Single Control Module based Function
Diagrams.
– Provide system-wide communication capabilities without the explicit need
for automatic cross communication generation from Function Designer.
– Can not be mapped to CIs and IO modules.
– Dependent on data flow directions and each output communication
variable must be unique in a system.
• CBM Signal mapping to Global Variables:
Configuration data generation of CBM signals in newly created Function
Diagrams of 800xA 5.1 creates local variables instead of global variables.
Local variables can not be accessed from other applications such as I/O
simulation.
• Global Variable access via X: Functionality:
Global variables can be accessed through the X: functionality. For example,
global variables can be referenced on Single Control Module diagrams. CBM
project constants can be used to reference global settings on DIAGRAMs.
• 1: N Connection:
The Communication variable concept is based on directions and enforces 1: N
connections for unidirectional data types and 1:1 connections for bidirectional
data types. M: 1 or M: N connections for variables within a controller can be
implemented using MMS access variable code.
Caching
If the function setting CachingEnabled is set to True, caching is enabled and
diagram modifications are not saved to aspect directory until Save operation is
performed. This increases the engineering performance in a multinode environment,
especially when working with sequences. Some functional discrepancies may occur.
By default, the function setting CachingEnabled is set to False.
2PAA106188-510 23
Document & Parameter Manager Section 2 Functionality Changes
Aspect Blob
Parameter Manager stores the parameter and document aspect property data and the
parameter aspect category definitions in an aspect blob instead of Microsoft SQL
Data Engine. The migration of the data for upgraded projects is performed while
restoring a system.

Control Network
• RNRP Loop Protection
In the controller, there is a protection against network loops enabled by default.
If a network loop is detected then the network interface of the controller is
disabled and a system event about this issue is generated. When the network
interface is disabled due to a network loop, the controller will still run, but may
not be able to communicate depending on whether both network interfaces or
only one is/are disabled. The controller will detect when the network loop has
been resolved and then the interface will be enabled again.
In AC 800M HI, the RNRP Loop Protection is not enabled by default but can be
enabled by a special parameter as described in the Technical Description
3BSE060651*.

Composer
Composer engineering workstations support configuring and editing of the project
tag database and associated lists in 800xA for Harmony (tag database, engineering
units, alarm comments, and logic state descriptors). These Composer based files can
be used directly in 800xA for Harmony for the 800xA System.
The following can be configured in the Composer project:
• area.
• unit.
• equipment structures (these will be maintained in the Functional Structure of
the 800xA System).
Other Composer console data such as Historian servers, group and trend displays
are not usable in 800xA for Harmony for the 800xA System.
It is recommended that Composer be installed on a separate workstation.

Compatibility
Some Hardware Modules may have to be exchanged to new hardware revisions.
See Compatible Hardware Modules on page 111, for further information.
Listed Hardware Modules must be of stated version/revision or higher.
When upgrading, consideration should be given to memory usage in the
controller. The firmware size has grown, resulting in less free memory, compared
to previous versions (prior to 5.x), for user applications. The reduction primarily
concerns processor modules with small amounts of free memory (PM851,
PM856, and PM860) and to controllers including several types of CEX-modules.

two times. First for some seconds during step 7 and then later for a longer time
during step 8 while the firmware is downloaded. Between these communication
breaks the communication is executed as normal. If the CI857 does not reconnect
within 300 seconds after the start of the firmware download the INSUM devices will
go to failsafe.
If an upgrade of CI857 is indicated as “Mandatory” the communication CI857 and
the INSUM system is broken at the switch in step 7 and not reestablished until after
the upgrade of the firmware of CI857. If the CI857 does not reconnect within 900
seconds after the switch the INSUM devices will go to failsafe.
In this upgrade case it is important to notice that the time the communication is
broken depends on how long time the user waits in step 8 in the online upgrade
wizard.
During the switch in step 7 the Status of the INSUMReceive and INSUMWrite
blocks may be -5324 or -15 for up to 8 seconds. The user needs to take this into
account in the application. ProcessObjInsumLib takes care of this internally.
If an upgrade has been started and the communication between the CI857 and the
INSUM TCP/IP Gateway is interrupted during step 3, where Redundancy is turned
off, the upgrade will be terminated.
The upgrade is possible to perform if the communication between the CI857 and the
INSUM TCP/IP Gateway is disconnected during the entire upgrade session.

History Services Section 19 Information Management
History Services
History Services supports data collection with optional compression (polled, by
exception, user-supplied, or manual), online storage, offline storage, and retrieval.
History Services can collect the following types of data:
• Process data from aspect object properties.
• Manually or programmatically entered lab data.
• Events and messages from the 800xA System Alarm/Event Server.
• Finished reports scheduled and executed via the Application Scheduler.
• Production data as it relates to Batch Management.
Configuration
Table 61 lists the History Services issues that may exist and affect configuration of

Operation
Table 62 lists the History Services issues that may exist and affect operational of the
system or product at time of release. Workarounds, clarifications, or helpful hints
have been provided for each issue wherever possible.
Calculations
The Calculations Services provide configuration and scheduling of calculations for
aspect objects. Like SoftPoints, Calculations is supported as a redundant service.
Typically Calculations are applied to real-time database objects, including both
SoftPoints and actual process points. Calculations may also be applied to object
types. This allows re-use of the calculation each time a new object is instantiated
from the object type.
Calculations can be triggered by changes to the inputs, or scheduled to execute
cyclically or at a given date and time. A Calculation aspect may be applied to any
aspect object such as a unit, vessel, pump, or SoftPoint. Inputs can be any aspect
object property, and outputs can be any writable point in the system. Input and
output definitions can be made relative to the object for which the Calculation is
defined. Data quality and alarm generation are supported. Calculation logic is
written in VBScript.
There are currently no known issues with the Calculations Service.
2PAA106188-510 245
Application Scheduler Section 19 Information Management
Application Scheduler
The Application Scheduler provides for the scheduling and running of jobs for
Industrial IT applications. For example, jobs can be run related to Information
Management applications including archival reports, event-driven data collection,
and consolidation of Production Data Logs (PDLs) and message logs. Jobs can be
scheduled and run at different times and under different conditions as specified
through aspects related to a job definition object.
The Report plug-in for the Application Scheduler is compatible with Crystal
Reports is Crystal Reports 2008 with Service Pack 2 and Fixpack 2.7.
Operation
Table 63 lists the Application Scheduler issues that may exist and affect operation of
the system or product at time of release. Workarounds, clarifications, or helpful
hints have been provided for each issue wherever possible.

named generic_da also supports real-time data access. This is a read-only table that
exposes all properties for all real-time objects.
The client application may run locally on the Information Management Server
where the ODA Server is installed, or it may run on a remote client computer.
Remote clients require the ODA client software to be installed.
There are currently no known issues with Open Data Access.
Desktop Applications
Desktop Applications consists of:
• Data Direct.
• Desktop Trends.
• Display Services.
Data Direct
DataDirect is an add-in program for Microsoft Excel that gives access to data from
Information Management applications, ABB OCS applications, as well as Oracle
and OPC data sources. With the proper authority, updating process values and
add/modify entries in lab data logs is possible. DataDirect uses industry-standard
tools and familiar techniques common to other Microsoft Office products.
Specifically, DataDirect supports access to:
• Process, historical, and SoftPoint data from 800xA system aspect objects.
• Process values from ABB OCS databases.
• Alarm and event messages stored in historical message logs.
• Ad hoc SQL queries without the use of SQL*NET or ODBC drivers.
• Production Data Logs (PDLs) for TCL, Batch 300, Batch Management, and
Profile Historian applications.
248 2PAA106188-510
Section 19 Information Management Desktop Trends
Desktop Trends
Desktop Trends provides real-time views for trend, production, and event data on
Information Management display clients using these ActiveX controls. Each of
these display clients includes easy access to the User Tag Management (UTM)
application.
• Trend Display: Shows graphical representations of values for up to eight tags.
The Trend Display supports common trend display tools including zoom, ruler,
filtering, and time offset.
• Ticker: Shows a repeating stream of real-time data for selected tags, similar to
a stock market ticker.
• Tag Explorer: Provides data for selected tags in tabular format. The
presentation and mode of operation resembles Windows Explorer.
• PDL Browser: Accesses production data from Production Data Logs for Batch
Management, Batch 300, TCL Batches, and Profile Historian.
• Batch to Batch Display: Combines the functionality of the Trend Display with
the PDL Browser. It allows easy navigation of the PDL structure to find and
display historical trends for different batches.
• Event Browser: Retrieves the time stamp, source, and message from OPC and
Audit Trail message logs configured in Information Management - History
Services.
• SQL Browser: Runs ad hoc SQL queries. A query can be saved after it is run.
The query can then be reopened for viewing at some time in the future. Saved
queries can also be deleted.
Display Services
Display Services is used to build and view dynamic runtime displays on desktop
client nodes connected to a Display server. This is an efficient and cost-effective
method for building and distributing process monitoring capability throughout a
plant.
Custom-built displays can be connected to a variety of data sources. For example,
use Display Services to build and run a display for viewing trend data collected by

History Services. Also, use it to connect the same display to a third-party database,
for instance an Oracle database on a remote Information Management node.

of the system or product at time of release. Workarounds, clarifications, or helpful
hints have been provided for each issue wherever possible.
250 2PAA106188-510
Section 19 Information Management SoftPoint Services
SoftPoint Services
Refer to the PLC Connect and SoftPoint Server section for changes and fixes to
SoftPoints.
The SoftPoint Services provide for configuration and use of internal process
variables not connected to an external physical process signal. Once configured, the
SoftPoints may be accessed by other Information Management applications as if
they were actual process points. For example, SoftPoint values may be stored in
property logs in History Services. Reporting packages such as Crystal Reports may
access SoftPoints for presentation in reports. Desktop tools such as Desktop Trends
and DataDirect can read from and write to SoftPoints.
SoftPoint alarms can be configured and are directly integrated with system alarms
and events. Engineering unit definitions for SoftPoints include minimum/maximum
limits and a unit descriptor.
SoftPoints is supported as a redundant service on a nonredundant Information
Management Server pair. The SoftPoint Services software may run on any number
of servers within a system.
Data types supported are: Boolean, integer (32bit), single precision floating point
(32 bit), and string. Also, double precision floating point (64 bit) is supported as an
extended data type.

Upgrade
Special considerations must be given when upgrading 800xA for Harmony from
800xA 5.0 SP2 to 800xA 5.1, 800xA 4.1 to 800xA 5.1, and 800xA 3.1 SP2 to
800xA 5.1.
The term upgrade refers to moving from one 800xA release to a later 800xA
release, whether it be a major or minor release.
The term update refers to adding service packs, patches, hot fixes, or rollups to an
existing 800xA System.
Execute the 800xA for Harmony System Verify Helper.exe file (accepting all
defaults) on all Harmony Servers and Aspect Servers BEFORE using the System
Planner tool or performing any other upgrade or update procedure. This file is
located on 800xA System Installation DVD 1 in the System Installer\Installation
Tools\Upgrade\HarmonyVerifyHelper directory. This is applicable only when
upgrading from 800xA 4.1 to 800xA 5.1.

Section 23 800xA for Harmony Procedure
Procedure
When an online upgrade of an 800xA 5.0 SP2 system is performed on a system that
includes 800xA for Harmony, the 800xA 5.0 SP2 and 800xA 5.1 systems must be
kept on separate networks until the 800xA 5.0 SP2 system is no longer required. For
more information, refer to the Online Upgrade procedure provided in the System
800xA Upgrade (3BSE036342*).
An online upgrade requires redundant Aspect Servers, Harmony Connectivity
Servers and in the case of a domain, Domain Controllers.
Do not make any configuration changes on the 5.0 SP2 system during the online
upgrade.
During an online upgrade the second domain controllers must be promoted, moved
to the 800xA 5.1 network, and then upgraded to Windows Server 2008.
In the case of a standalone Configuration Server node, the Configuration Server
node must be upgraded before the primary Connectivity Server node.
In the case of a 800xA for Harmony Configuration Server with Connectivity Server
node, the node should be upgraded to 800xA 5.1 first.
Node Order
This node order is different than what is described in the System 800xA Upgrade
(3BSE036342*) and System 800xA Automated Installation (3BSE034679*)
instructions.
The upgrade is a node-by-node procedure that must be performed in the following
node order:

Procedure Section 23 800xA for Harmony
Procedure
Perform the procedure as follows:
1. Create a backup of the 800xA System. Refer to the System 800xA Upgrade
(3BSE036342*) instruction for more information.
2. For an online upgrade in a domain environment, prepare the node to move to
the isolated network by performing the following steps:
a. Verify that the node has a DNS Server running.

2008 Server operating system and then move the node to the new network.
16. Load the new version of RNRP, Diagnostic Collection Tool, and 800xA
Common Third Party Install Tool on the domain controllers.
The following are the steps for upgrading from 800xA 3.1 SP2 to 800xA 5.1:
1. Upgrade 800xA for Harmony from 800xA 3.1 SP2 to 800xA 4.1 by performing
the procedures as described in Industrial IT, 800xA - System, Upgrade System
