Learning Activity

Introduction:
For the Harry Potter introduction to the persuasion lesson, students will select a Hogwarts
house from the book that they like. The four corners in the room will have a label with different
houses. Students will then a corner that represents the house they like. Students will then defend
why they chose that particular house. Or why their house is better than the other houses. Students
will listen to other’s choices and debate why or why not that person’s reason is valid. After that,
students will group up in the corner they are standing in. Students will have the task to persuade
people on why their house is the best using the Microsoft Word Brochure template.
Instruction/Activities:

Step 1: Students will be given direct instruction on the information they need to know in order
to complete the assignment.

Step 2: Students will be encouraged to include picture and captions that persuade people to join
their house.

Step 3: Students will build on their knowledge and skills by gaining experience in written
communication and critical thinking.

Step 4: Students will seek new information on the internet on a topic they don't
understand. They will learn how to research and analyze information that relate to the project.

Step 5: Students must include cited evidence from the text and research websites.

Step 6: Students will use the digital tools and resources to:
- Prepare a Tri-Fold Brochure
- Professional appearance in design
- Correct Grammar & Punctuation
Final Product:
Students will turn in a brochure that includes:
 Trifold with information on their house
 Include picture, captions and summary
 Correct Grammar & Punctuation
