I. Introduction
Rationale
 Ecological concept:
 Native species are those that naturally exist at a given location
or in a particular ecosystem.
 Under similar climatic conditions, there may simultaneously
develop more than one community, some reaching the climax
stage, and others under different stages of succession.

Objective
 General

This study aims to determine the efficacy of kantutay, tanglad, and

hagonoy extracts as housefly pesticide.

 Specific

To determine the efficacy of kantutay, tanglad, and hagonoy

extracts as housefly pesticide in terms of mortality rate.

To find out if there is a significant difference on the mortality rate

of housefly treated with different extracts of kantutay, tanglad, and
hagonoy as pesticide.

Significance of the study

The result of this study shall be benefit the society who are
affected by the occurrence of housefly in households and
establishments specially poultry farm.

Scope and Limitation

This study will focus on determining whether the extract of plants,

locally known Kantutay, Tanglad and Hagonoy will be effective as
housefly pesticide.
Definition of Terms

 Pest- an animal or insect that cause problems to other organism.

 Insect- a small animal that has six legs and a body formed of three
parts and may have wings.
 Pesticide- a chemical substance used to kill animals or insects.
 Extract- the juice that is removes by using the juicer from the leaves
of hagonoy, kantutay, and lemon grass.
 Housefly –an organism use in the study
 Hagonoy, kantutay, and lemon grass –are the plants use in the
study

III- Materials and Methods

Organism
Housefly Musca domestica considered one of the most important pests
which cause health problems in the environment as it accompanies human
during their daily activity everywhere, on work site or in rest places causing
many disturbances to them.

Location

The study will be conducted at Magalasin Residence, P-11, Poblacion,

Manticao, Misamis Oriental.
Data Gathering

The dead bodies of housefly will be counted after the application of

pesticide. There will be three treatments, which are hagonoy, kantutay, and
tanglad extracts treated to 10 houseflies that have three replications in each
treatment.

Experimental Set-up

The experimental set-up will be conducted at at Magalasin Residence, P-

11, Poblacion, Manticao, Misamis Oriental. The materials will be use are the
sprayer bottle, juicer, cloth, knife, improvised cage, and syringe for measuring the
volume of the extract. The area must be choosing randomly using a calculator to
avoid bias.

Data analysis

One-way (ANOVA)– is used to determine the mortality rate of

housefly treated with different extracts of kantutay, tanglad, and hagonoy as
pesticide.
