Swedish for Immigrants (SFI)


SFI, Education in Swedish for Immigrants, is a basic Swedish language course for those who
do not have Swedish as their mother tongue. You will learn Swedish language, how the
Swedish society functions, about working life in Sweden and Swedish culture.

Those who fulfill one of the below have the right to study SFI in Sollentuna:
• At least 16 years old after 1 July the same year you want to study. If you are 16 - 19
years old and haven’t completed foreign high school, we recommend that you first
contact Rudbecksskolan, http://www.rudbeck.se/sprakintroduktion in Sollentuna.
• If you have a Social Security number (personnummer) and are registered in the
municipality of Sollentuna
• If you lack basic knowledge of Swedish
• If you are an EU/EES or Switzerland citizen and have an address in Sollentuna

SFI application
You can register for SFI if you visit one of our Drop-in times at Turebergsvägen 1B in
Sollentuna. We will determine which level you will begin at based on your educational
background and will send your name to the school of your choice. The school you have
chosen will contact you within two weeks, by letter, e-mail or text message. The school will
let you know what day and what time to start the SFI. If you need career guidance and
information or have questions regarding your studies contact the school you selected or
Kunskapsparken (telephone number 08-579220 01) for further information.

Full-time or part-time
You can study SFI full-time or part-time, mornings or afternoons or evenings or Saturdays.
We even have distance learning for those who prefer that. You can find more information and

Finance
SFI students are not entitled to student grant from CSN (Swedish student aid). If you are a
refugee or registered with the social authorities in Sollentuna or the Swedish Public
Employment Service, you might be entitled for financial benefit from them. For more
information contact your personal contact person at the social services or Employment
services.

Former education
If you have completed secondary school or academic education from your home country, we
want to inform you that you can validate your education while you are studying SFI. Visit

SFI at Folk High School


You can also choose to study SFI at any Folk High School. Click here to go to the website
with all the Folk high schools in Sweden.
If you prefer to Study SFI at a Folk High School you will need to follow the following
procedure:
- Make an application to the Folk High School of your choice (you can get their
application papers on their website)
- Then send or bring the application to Kunskapsparken for approval
- If approved we will send the approval to the school you chose and the school will
contact you

SFx - Swedish for professionals


SFx is Swedish for professionals with focus on the professional language. The aim is to
shorten the period from SFI to employment or entrepreneurship. Currently we have SFx for
nine different professions, such as medical professions, engineers, lawyers, bus drivers,
teachers, etc. For more information visit the SFx website.

Civic orientation – About Sweden


Civic orientation is for those who are new in Sweden intended to help you if you want to
know more about Sweden and Swedish society. The material is available in downloadable
files in several languages. The purpose of the civic orientation is to make it easier for new
arrivals to become established in work and social settings.
