Past

Her undeniable talent had propelled her from her small hometown in the countryside to the cusp of
international stardom.

‘I used to sing whenever I could, back where I grew up my 15y/o self would make mix tapes of me
singing love songs that I would then send to my boyfriend at the time, it’s so naff looking back at it
now’

At the age of 19, Mya successfully auditioned for the performing-arts Brit School, singing a cover of
Elvis’s ‘Can’t help falling in love’.

‘The experience was so liberating and it really allowed me to be creative and feel confident writing
original songs.’

Several setbacks later, it wasn’t until Mya was 28 that she got scouted by Rob Stringer (the head of
Columbia records) while singing in a bar in London.

Despite others doubting her musical and artistic abilities because of her age, Mya is stronger than
ever and ready to pursue her life-long dream. ‘I was stuck after leaving the Brit school and didn’t
know what to do next, id fallen into a rabbit hole, but when I met Rob I knew it was finally my time.’

Style

The artist has her own unique personal style when it comes to her traditional yet progressive
appearance.

Mya likes to tell a story with her music but hint at current pressing issues linking to female liberation.

Future

Mya went back to her hometown to get inspiration for her new single ‘when we were young’.

‘By going home and reflecting on past experiences, it has really allowed me to get a perspective of
how far I’ve really come. It’s been nice to reminisce on times I had when I was younger, even if they
were cheesy and slightly embarrassing.’

Since being signed to Columbia, Mya has become good friends with Beyoncé, who is also signed to
the record company. Mya is set to go on tour with Beyoncé as a supporting act in the upcoming year.

Other than being the supporting act on Beyoncé’s upcoming tour, Mya will release her debut album
at the end of the month and has recently been nominated for ‘best new artist’ at the Grammy’s.
