Abstract-The article considers the sequence of determining the enterprise network parameters during designing
and modernizing a telecommunications system that provides its stable operation, as well as the sequence of
equipment network configuration using the Cisco Packet Tracer software.

Introduction
Modern society is characterized by the rapid development of computer information technologies and
telecommunications systems. Computer technologies have penetrated into all spheres of human activity, starting
from education in primary classes and ending at the study of new technologies, new types of materials in
laboratories and scientific and technical institutes. The use of computer technology facilitates the process of
education, both for pupils and students, and for working personnel, and also significantly reduces the costs of
enterprise resources for information processing.
Recently, the use of telecommunication systems has become especially relevant due to the spreading of
non-cash payment systems and the introduction of online submission of financial statements. Work, which
previously required a large amount of time, is now performed almost instantly. However, for stable operation,
the used network must provide the required parameters of speed and quality.
Information system modernization is an evolutionary stage of the global life cycle of the information
system without changing the basic system functions.
When choosing equipment for the organization of the enterprise network, it is necessary to take into
account such parameters as signal attenuation depending on the type of wires used for network the, the required
transmitter power, and the line capacity.
The linear line attenuation, characterizing the decrease in the power of the reference signal at the output
of the line to the power of the input signal per line length, is given by the following expression [1]:
P
10 lg out
P
A in (1)
L
where:
Pin - Input signal power;
Pout - Output signal power;
L - Line length.
The linear signal attenuation dependence of the signal frequency (MHz) in cables of different
categories with100 meters of length is shown in Fig. 1.

Figure 1 - Signal attenuation dependence of frequency in twisted pair

By knowing the line attenuation factor, we can determine the required source power to provide the
desired signal at the line output according to the following expression:
A  10 lg P
out
P  10 10 (2)
in
The line capacity for a known physical layer protocol, defining a fixed bit rate, corresponds to a known
value, for example, 2 Mbps, 100 Mbps, 1 Gbps, etc.
If the line capacity is selected correctly, then all information sent by the transmitter will be completely
received by the receiver (Figure 2a), otherwise a significant part of the harmonics will go beyond the passband
and the signal will be distorted by the receiver (Figure 2b).

Figure 2 - The correspondence between the passband and the signal spectrum

There is a relationship between the passband and the line capacity, established by Claude Shannon and
described by the following expression:
𝐶 = 𝐹 log 1+ (3)
where:
С – Capacity, bit/s;
F – Passband width, Hz;
Рs – signal power;
Рn– noise power.

The last expression allows to estimate the increase in the line capacity with increasing the transmitter
power for a given signal-to-noise ratio.
According to the described above parameters, the equipment for the enterprise network is selected base
on a conducted calculation. The selected equipment needs to be set up. Among a huge number of software
products for tuning and debugging networks, Cisco is the undisputed leader, whose certificates and experience
are recognized by all organizations over the world. The Cisco Packet Tracer software is a multifunctional
network modeling system that allows making experiments for projects and network behavior. Further we will
consider the work of this product in more detail.
Packet Tracer has the functions of modeling, visualization, authoring, attestation and cooperation. It
has the functions of training, allowing studying complicated technological principles. In specially equipped
training classes of Cisco networking academies, students have the opportunity to hone their skills on the real
hardware and understand how the software simulation differs from the real network. The ideology of Cisco
training in addition to working with the simulator is to imply the practice of working with real equipment, which
is necessary to the future professionals for their further work.
Figure 3 shows the enterprise network scheme, configuration of which must be performed.
As an example, Figures 4, 5 and 6 show listings for setting up the name, IP-address and password of
the main office switch.

The Practice of Enterprise Network Configuration Using Cisco Packet Tracer

This completes the configuration of the technical department switch. The algorithm for others PCs
configuration is identical.

Conclusion
The Correct network equipment design and configuration of the enterprise is the mo`st important task,
requiring consideration of many factors such as: signal attenuation and its dependence on the type of wires used
for the network organization, the required transmitter power, the line capacity. The Packet Tracer software from
Cisco, a leading developer and manufacturer of network equipment and software, is the best recognized over the
world product for network modeling and configuration.
