Course Description
This training course provides detailed discussions, and hands-on training for building reservoir simulations. The
training course will provide fundamental and advanced knowledge of reservoir simulation procedures, static model
construction, reservoir model initialization, history matching and forecast. The different type of reservoir
simulation models will be wide discussed based on use, goal, and time frame. Novel workflows and guidelines for
initialization and history matching wells and reservoirs will be presented. Framework to identify sweet spot and
new opportunities will be discussed as well. This course is also designed to provide a complete and up-to-date
overview of reservoir modeling and simulation, type reservoir models, including geostatistics, initialization, history
matching and forecast.
The course will be supplemented by practical class project example problems, group exercises and interactive
group discussion designed to consolidate and reinforce learning, identify and offer solutions to specific problems
associated with oil production, reservoir simulation, integrated asset modeling, and field development plans. In
addition to the core case studies built specifically to drive home the techniques and tools taught during the training
sessions, other cases will be drawn from oil production problems, reservoir modeling, and production management
as the workshop proceeds.
Understanding the importance of fluid and rock characterization modeling on reservoir modeling
Understanding the type of reservoir simulation models, their uses, and limitation
Learning how to conduct the reservoir initialization
Learning the key history matching guidelines
Learning when use black oil tables and Equation of states in reservoir simulation studies
Understanding the main forecast constrains during well and reservoir prediction phase
Understanding how simulators solve the system of equations
Understanding how the static modeling in generated and how petrophysical properties and geological
facies are distributed
Understand the type of aquifers, models and theirs use in reservoir simulation
Understanding the simulation file. For instance, the eclipse data file.
Using case studies, group exercises and interactive group discussion to have a better understanding of
reservoir simulation uses and limitations.
