Education is free. Everyone has the right to have an access to it, but for some, hard work is the
only ticket to pass through the gate that stops them from receiving it.
There are lots of kids mentioned in the documentary, but all of them experience the same thing;
they suffer. These kids have to wake up early just to prepare their own food for lunch, to cross the river,
which is really challenging because it is dangerous and hard because they have to put their bags on their
head just to not get it wet as they cross the river, and to climb a mountain for two to three hours just to
go to school. These kids are not just a victim of poverty, but also a victim of fake promises said by some
politicians; full of words yet lack actions.
Education is sometimes ignored by some. They hate it. They hate going to school. So, the
documentary made me realize how lucky I am to receive the education I need without going through what
those kids go through every day. Also, I felt bad for those who take school for granted, because the
treasure is already a step away from them but they choose to ignore it and focus on something else when
some even have to risk their lives just to get it.

Homeless to Harvard

To live means to experience things. People experience nice things every day. That is what I want
to believe, but for some, these things are sometimes not so nice at all.
Lisa Murray is a strong woman. Both her parents were drug addicts. She was bullied in the
orphanage, and when she came back, her Mom was already suffering from AIDS. She ran away because
of her grandfather. She stole food with her friend, whom she met at school before, just to survive a day.
Then, her Mom died. Those are just few of her sufferings, yet she remained strong and said with full
sincerity, “I don’t want to be an idiot. I want to go to school.” Right after that, opportunities came her
way. Lisa’s intelligence and determination brought her to Harvard.
As I watched it, I learned how to deal with life. I learned how to overcome every obstacle I am
facing and/or I will face in the future as I walk towards my dream. Yes, intelligence is a factor, but
intelligence without determination is like a gun without a bullet. It will not fire. You will not reach your
goals in life. Therefore, starting from now, whenever I get tired, I will just take a break and after that, I will
pull the trigger and fire again.
