WATERMAN PUMPS

It is factory that being has been recognised as the manufacturer of the submerged pumps. This
factory is located in the Ahmedabad.

During the factory visit, various Lean theoretical aspects starting from the 5s, Kaizen and the
visual display has helped us to understand the Lean better and some of the examples and the
correction needed are pointed below:

 Declaration of the bay walking area was clearly mentioned which helped the easy
movement of the material.
 Clear distribution of the raw material in the storage having unique identification code,
not only helped to properly segregate but replenished the material when needed through
minimum stock level.
 Many Kaizen activities were easily noticeable that not only resulted in the ease of the
production method but also fastened the process. Some of them are stated below:
o In the inspection process, to measure the diameter of the raw material, a sample
was used.
o The weight was reduced by drilling the holes in them that helped the worker by
making it easier to carry as the frequency of carrying them was high.
o Development of the motor of the shaft was revised by the worker itself.
 Apart from the above it was seen that the company was involved in the CSR activites.

Suggestions:

 Proper Gloves are needed for the worker who were dealing in the high temperature area.
Gloves in both the hands were needed.
 In the testing area of pumps, there was easy contact of water with electricity, but no
protective gears were there.
 In the welding area, protective glassware is required.
 In Lathe machine, the waste was not cleared after lathing of one product was completed,
which leads to conjunction.
 Despite of the identification of the designated storage area, materials were placed
elsewhere.
