Living Simply – A step towards Sustainable

Living
By Tanya Gupta

Mahatma Gandhi once said, “The Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s need, but no
man’s greed.” Sustainable living has become the new hashtag but an important question arises
upon the awareness of Sustainable living. Does sustainable living only encounter with the
climatic changes or does it focuses upon other aspects also? There is a need for deep dive into
the topic of the way of living sustainability.

Before getting into the way, it is really important to understand what sustainability is, it defines
the ability to exist constantly in terms of biosphere and human interaction, on the other hand,
sustainable living deals with lifestyle that
attempt to reduce an individual or society’s
use of Earth’s natural resources, and one’s
personal resources. So does it requires huge
steps to change our daily lifestyles and it is
really important. Let’s bury further into
the importance of sustainable living, it is
there because of several reasons like
health and quality of life by improving them.
It doesn’t only focus on environmental
aspects but also deal with the economic
aspect also. Unless living standards are changed, citizens of developing countries will continue
to be affected by poverty, with population growth at the same time. Another reason for the
same is to preserve a future for the upcoming generations and sustaining enough resources for
them.
Now it’s time to answer to how to live sustainably, it should be done by each and everyone and
not only the social corporates who are responsible towards the society and environment. The
best way is to practice in a
day-to-day schedule. Some
of the options are such as
changing the means of
energy, by what it means to
shift towards renewable
energy like solar, water or
wind energies which are
abundant in nature and
doesn’t create much pollution as compared to the conventional usage of the fossil to generate
the same. In the same field, other small steps can be taken which are changing of the bulbs to
power efficient or adjusting thermostat at an optimum temperature. Another way to go
sustainable is by building a home, using the resources such as bamboo, composite wood or
reclaimed stone or brink, recycle metal and concrete, wood and straw bale all material which is
been produced in an environmentally friendly manner.

There are simple ways to go environmentally which are known by most but isn’t followed by
most. Some of those are changing the way of transportation such as using public transport or
carpooling which reduce a lot of the emission that is being released into the environment.
Another way is upgrading cars from petrol or diesel usage to electricity or solar based. Or taking
up the same way that ancestors used to take which was walking for short distances which
would also provide. The most popular way is to recycle and reuse. Like going digital and
reducing the consumption of the paper usage, decomposing the food scraps, food wastage and
turn them into the manure. Reusing old clothes as cleaning clothes and extending their
lifecycle.

One would also though go green by only the food choices. This can be done by opting for the
seasonal and locally growing food that would have vain of the long- supply chains. Growing own
food and vegetables for those who have huge backyards which is an upcoming trend or having
an own mini herb plantation. When into comes clothing for sustainable, going minimalist and
saying no to fast fashion is the key.

But is following above actually lead us to somewhere or not? The above helps us to reduce
consumption and but to improve the situation plantation of trees and spreading awareness is
really important. So here I would like to conclude by saying “To make an investment that would
leave a better place for the next ones and setting an example for them.”
