Implementation Of 5S through 5 pillars:

Pillar-1: Sort

Step 1: Trainee from one individual floor/section will work as a core team. Please list down
their name. If possible select one team leader. Though there is team leader but all have to
contribute as a team.

Step 2: Specify the area where you lunch the 5S project. Prepare a plat how the team works.
For example the responsibility of individual and responsibility of a group from team.

Step 3: Identify potentially unneeded items in the area through rag tagging project. Select Red
Tag Area (Concrete/Hypothetical)

Step 3: Accumulation of unneeded items in Red Tag Area. Make concreter or hypothetical
decision about Red Tag items.

Pillar-2: Set-In-Order

Step 1: Consider(concrete or hypothetical) Trolleys, storage racks, Waste bins, Fork lift
trucks, Vehicles etc.for storing the items.

Step 2: Visual Presentation(concrete or hypothetical) of the storing place and section floor
(Working areas, Aisles and others)

Pillar-: Shine

Step 01: List down the sweeper name and instruct them to work on Inventory items,
equipment and space.

Step 02: Assign the specific areas to individual sweeper.

Step 03:
 Set aside times for the shine activities so that they eventually become a natural part of the
workday.

 Fix time for machine cleaning activates (alarm/song/soft music)

Step 04: Specify area for cleaning tools so that it is easy to find, use and return. If needed
discuss with maintenance dept.

Pillar-4: STANDARDIZE

 Assign 3S responsibilities

For example:

a. Unnecessary items removed from area

b. Parts storage (organized & labeled)

c. Standard WIP at designated levels

d. Foot printing (all free-standing items in designated location)

e. Shadow boards (all tools in place)

 Integrate 3S Duties into regular work duties

Pillar-5: SUSTAIN

1. Awareness: Propose suggestions how to create awareness about 5S

Time: Is it justified to spend time for 5S. Write 2-3 sentences.

Structure: Why support from top management is crucial issue to implement 5S.

Rewards & recognition: Is there need rewards for 5S team member and why?

2. Make Slogan, Poster, Photo for 5S.
