Instructional Planning

(The process of systematically planning, developing, evaluating and managing the

instructional process by using principles of teaching and learning - D.O. 42, s. 2016)
Detailed Lesson Plan (DLP) Format

Duration: Date:
DLP No.: 1 Learning Area: Math Grade Level: 7 Quarter: 1 60 mins
Learning
Competency/ie Describes well defined sets, subsets, universal sets, and the null set and Code: M7NS-Ia-1
s: cardinality of sets.
Key Concepts/ Set is a well-defined group of objects, called elements that share a common characteristic.
Understanding Subset is a part of any set.
s to be Proper subset is a set that does not contain all elements of a set.
Developed: Universal set is the set that contains all objects under consideration.
Null sets an empty set. It is a subset of any set.
Cardinality of set is the number of elements contained in a set.
1. Objectives
Knowledge Define a set, an element of a set, a proper subset, a universal set, a null set, and the cardinality of set.
Skills Construct examples of sets and subsets.
Attitudes Display alertness in identifying the cardinality of a set.
Values Improve collaborative spirit in sharing ideas with peers.
2. Content Sets

3. Learning Mathematics for the New Millenium (Cachero & Ramos), Math Builders (Ulpina & Licardo), Understanding
Resources/M Mathematics (Fausto, et. al.), Workbook in Math 7, powerpoint presentation, projector/TV, laptop/netbook

pment
4. Procedures (indicate the steps you will undertake to teach the lesson and indicate the no. of minutes each
step will consume)
Preparation 1. Prayer
10 minutes 2. Attendance and Physical Arrangement Check

ACTIVITY:
1. The names of the following person, things, animals and objects will be presented to the class:
Sampaguita, Gumamela, Rose, Santan, Triangle, Square, Rectangle, Circle, Bahay-Kubo, Philippine
Eagle, Jose Rizal, Andres Bonifacio, Emilio Aguinaldo, Juan Luna
2. The students will find a partner and will group the following as they see it and label each group.
ASK:
1. How many groups are there?
2. Does each object belong to a group?
3. Is there an object that belongs to more than one group? Which one?
Presentation
15 minutes Present a problem to the class and instruct them to answer the given questions.
PROBLEM: Consider a set composed of whole numbers from 1 to 100. Let this be set U. Form smaller sets
consisting of elements of U that share different characteristics. For example, let E be the set of all odd numbers
from 1 to 100.

ASK:
1. Can you form three more such sets?
2. How many elements are there in each of these sets?
3. Do any of these sets have any elements in common?

ABSTRACTION:
1. What is a well-defined group of objects? How about the things that share a common characteristic in a
set?
2. How do we call a set each of whose elements is a part of a larger set? if it does not contain all
elements of the larger set?
3. What do we call to a set that contains all objects under consideration? How about an empty set?
4. How do we call a number of elements contained in a set?
5. Why is it important to identify and recognize the related terms in set?

Practice
15 minutes Do the following exercises:
1. Give 3 examples of well-defined sets.
2. Name two subsets of the set of whole numbers using both the listing method and rule method.
3. Let D= {5, 10, 15, 20, 25}. List all the possible subset of D.
4. How many subsets does a set of n elements have?

ASK:
1. What are the different ways of writing a set?
2. How can we determine the number of proper sets of a given set?

5. Assessment (indicate whether it is thru Observation and/ or Talking/conferencing to learners and/or

Analysis of Learner’s Products and/or Tests)
Answer Worksheet 1.0 – Test A in Workbook in Math 7, pg. 1

Put a check on the space provided if the following are well-defined collection of objects. Otherwise, put a cross.
Written Test _________1. All beautiful flowers in the park
10 minutes _________2.All distinct letters in the word MATHEMATICS
_________3. All active teachers in a school

6. Assignment (indicate whether it is for Reinforcement and/or Enrichment and/or Enhancement of the
day’s lesson or Preparation for a new lesson)
Enrichment Answer Worksheet 1.0 – Test B in Workbook in Math 7, pg. 2
8 minutes
From the sets below, fill in the blanks to make the statement true.
M = {2, 4, 6, 8, 10} T = {12, 16, 20, 24}
A = {1, 3, 5, 7, 9} H= {13, 18, 23, 28, 33}

1. 10 ∈ ___
2. 9 ___ A
3. 28 ___ H

7. Wrap- Up
/Concluding Close the period by wrapping – up the day’s lesson.
