formed in 1905 by the merger of the Anglo-Swiss Milk Company, established in 1866 by
brothers George and Charles Page, and FarineLactée Henri NESTLE, founded in 1866 by Henri
NESTLE. The company grew significantly during the First World War and again following the
Second World War, expanding its offerings beyond its early condensed milk and infant formula
products. The company has made a number of corporate acquisitions, including Crosse &
Blackwell in 1950, Findus in 1963, Libby's in 1971, Rowntree Mackintosh in 1988, Klim in
1998, and Gerber in 2007. As nutrition, health and wellness company, Nestle, is committed to
the improvement of value of life by helping community in which it operates to meet basic and
necessary human needs. The competitors are glaxosmith con, Britannia, rei agro, kwality dairy,
lakshmi energy, heritage foods etc. Over the years Nestle has used its resources, skills and
technology to help find solutions to the many socio-economic challenges facing communities.
Many of the communities are confront by challenges such as poor cleanliness, lack of clean
water, poverty, diseases, underfeeding, food security and many others. NESTLE is the world's
largest food producer, by revenue. It was formed in the 1950s, when two companies merged. At
the start in the 1860s, the company produced soluble milk that could be given to infants and
babies. From about the 1930s, NESTLE also produced soluble coffee. In 2010, NESTLE’s
revenue was about 109 billion Swiss Francs, and its net profit was about 32 billion Swiss Francs.
Food that is made to be used instead of breast milk is known as infant formula. There are many
laws that regulate how infant formula products should be marketed. NESTLE's soluble milk is a
product that falls under this definition. In the 1970s, NESTLE marketed its soluble milk to
mothers with infants. This was also done in developing countries. The marketing campaign led to
a boycott known as NESTLE boycott, which is still ongoing. In 1981, the World Health
Organization published a guideline for advertising infant formula products. NESTLE is being
criticized because supposedly it does not respect this code of conduct. NESTLE's policy states
that breast-milk is the best food for infants, and those women who cannot or choose not to breast
feed need an alternative to ensure that their babies are getting the nutrition they need. The
problem is that stop breastfeeding will not be able to start again, after some time. They will
become dependent on infant formula products to feed their babies. 11 NESTLE's relationship
with India dates back to 1912, when it began trading as The NESTLE Anglo-Swiss Condensed
Milk Company (Export) Limited, importing and selling finished products in the Indian market.
After India's independence in 1947, the economic policies of the Indian Government emphasised
the need for local production. NESTLE responded to India's aspirations by forming a company in
India and set up its first factory in 1961 at Moga, Punjab, where the Government wanted
NESTLE to develop the milk economy. Progress in Moga required the introduction of
NESTLE's Agricultural Services to educate, advise and help the farmer in a variety of aspects.
From increasing the milk yield of their cows through improved dairy farming methods, to
irrigation, scientific crop management practices and helping with the procurement of bank loans.
NESTLE set up milk collection centres that would not only ensure prompt collection and pay fair
prices, but also instill amongst the community, a confidence in the dairy business. Progress
involved the creation of prosperity on an on-going and sustainable basis that has resulted in not
just the transformation of Moga into a prosperous and vibrant milk district today, but a thriving
hub of industrial activity, as well. NESTLE has been a partner in India's growth for over a
century now and has built a very special relationship of trust and commitment with the people of
India. The Company's activities in India have facilitated direct and indirect employment and
provides livelihood to about one million people including farmers, suppliers of packaging
materials, services and other goods. The Company continuously focuses its efforts to better
understand the changing lifestyles of India and anticipate consumer needs in order to provide

Nestle Vision Statement “To be a leading, competitive, Nutrition, Health and Wellness Company

the company's long-term business strategy. In keeping with its claimed commitment to nutrition,
NESTLE has invested in scientific research on nutritional aspects of the kinds of products it
sells. For example, it has studied the effects of chocolate on metabolism and gut bacteria. The
Economist describes this as a potentially risky strategy; by investing in research and
development, the company is "playing a long game," in contrast to the short-term strategies of
some of its competitors. NESTLE has also made an effort to practice "corporate citizenship." It
has been involved in a number of efforts to promote good agricultural and environmental
practices, such as the World Cocoa Foundation, which is "committed to creating a sustainable
cocoa economy by putting farmers first - promoting agricultural and environmental stewardship,
and strengthening development in cocoa-growing communities."
