IMPORTANCE OF SUPERVISION

Supervision is important because:


1. Mediator:
Supervisor acts as an important link between workers and
management.Supervisor not only explains the objective/ ideas
of the management to the workers but also explains the
problems/ grievances of the workers to the management.
2 .Controlling Performance:
Supervision ensures performance of works as per the targets.
Supervisor assumes responsibility for the accomplishment of task
undertaken and motivates his fellow workers.
3.Optimum Utilization Of Resources:
It develops work skills which help in optimum utilization of
resources.
4.Discipline:
It results in maintenance of discipline.

THE FOUR FUNCTIONS OF SUPERVI SION


1. Planning: The deciding of what is to be done to accomplish
the purpose, the objective, or the mission of the
department, section, or unit.
2. Organizing: The formal arranging and balancing of activities,
the determination of who is to do what, the assigning
of authority and responsibility so that which is
being planned will be accomplished.

3. Directing: The-actual assigning of tasks, ordering,-instructing,


telling subordinates what to do in order to accomplish
the objective.

4. Controlling: Checking the progress of work against plans or


standards to determine if activities are being carried out;
making corrections and adjustments or even new plans
in the light of new developments or unforeseen circum-
stances; evaluating and disciplining subordinates.
