THE FOUR FUNCTIONS OF SUPERVI SION
1. Planning: The deciding of what is to be done to accomplish the purpose, the objective, or the mission of the department, section, or unit. 2. Organizing: The formal arranging and balancing of activities, the determination of who is to do what, the assigning of authority and responsibility so that which is being planned will be accomplished.
3. Directing: The-actual assigning of tasks, ordering,-instructing,
telling subordinates what to do in order to accomplish the objective.
4. Controlling: Checking the progress of work against plans or
standards to determine if activities are being carried out; making corrections and adjustments or even new plans in the light of new developments or unforeseen circum- stances; evaluating and disciplining subordinates.
