COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is designed to familiarize students of environmental engineering with the knowledge
of Water Pollution Control. The course is divided into eight sections. The first section discusses the
Scope, & historical background of water pollution. The second and third sections of the course
will be covering topics such as the Occurrence of water & Water resources of Pakistan with a
focus on water quality and potential sources of pollution. The fourth section discusses
Groundwater movement with a focus on Darcy’s law & concepts behind permeability. Fifth
section discusses Groundwater levels and Environmental influences. While sixth and seventh
section discuss the Quality of Groundwater and Pollution of groundwater. In the last section,
Saline water intrusion in aquifers will be discussed.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
The main objective of this course is to provide a comprehensive package of the knowledge of
Water Pollution Control with an emphasis on the basic principles involved in order to develop
strategies and systems that would help minimizing & treating water pollution.
RELEVANT PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES (PLOs):
The course is designed so that students will achieve the PLOs:
