MuC 110 Reflection Paper

Repertoire : Verleih uns Frieden

After reviewing the video recording of conducting workshop, these are the evaluation, broken down
according to body parts and subjects.

Head

1. The breathing cue from the mouth was clear, however at some point was a little to much.

2. Eyebrows were too active during cueing, it could be less distracting.

3. Facial expression was fixed for cueing more rather than the nuanses.

4. Eye contacts was bare minimum, only during cues and dynamics. Most of the time eyes were to fixed
on the score. More eye contact would be better.

Arms, Hands, and Shoulders

1. At the beginning RH was a little too stiff, it needs to be relaxed.

2. RH and LH independent were good. LH cues for cut offs can be more efficient with less distracting
(small and precise) motion.

3. Upper arm for breathing cues were good. During forte, upper arm could be more controlled and not
swung too high over the head because it would make the conductor's presence seems smaller.

Overall posture

1. There was a tendency to step forward when asking for more from the singers. Lean back and pull the
singers for better result.

2. Legs can be a little more still and less walking around. The center of gravity swayed a little too much
and it made the grounded feeling a little shaky.

Impression

The music was flowing, contrast of the dynamic was clear. Ending could be prepared better, the sense of
the music slowing down and dying away needs to be shown. There was a feeling of wanting to get done
quickly at the end instead of calmly and peacefully closing the song
