If the canal is filled with the solution during entire cleaning and shaping
procedure, the irrigant will act as a lubricant, solvent of pulp tissue, and
a potent antimicrobial. Of a number of solutions studied, none was more
effective than a 5.2% solution of sodium hypochlorite.
Sodium hypochlorite is not only a pulp solvent and root canal irrigant,
but it also has significant antimicrobial properties.
