Topic: Utilizing Starch-based BioPlastics in order to create Biodegradable Utensils.

1. Glycerol (Glycerin)
● Glycerol is a colorless, odourless yet
sweet substance, commonly found in
animal fat or vegetable oil.

● It is commonly used for medicinal

reasons like soothing constipation.

● It is an organic compound, meaning it

INDEPENDENT contains carbon in its atomic structure.
VARIABLE Aron Vinson Santos
● For our research project, we would use
glycerol as a plasticizer. Basically, glycerol
is used to link polymer chains together
and also allows them to slide past each
other.
2. Cornstarch
● Corn starch is the starch of the corn
grain, and is used for cooking purposes.

● It is commonly used for baking purposes.

● It is also a renewable resource.

● For this project, we will use starch as our

main ingredient for creating strong
polymers that biodegrade. Ethan Josiah Sabacan
INDEPENDENT
VARIABLE ● The amount of starch might affect the
strength of the bioplastic and its water
absorption.

● Cornstarch is a great starch for mass

producing bioplastics because it is very
cheap and renewable.
3. Lifespan of Bioplastic
● Will decompose in 3 to 6 months
completely

● Temperature and moisture are variables

on how long the bioplastic will take to Luis Enrico Morales
decompose

DEPENDENT ● For this project, we are testing on the

VARIABLE time it takes the BioPlastic to
decompose.

4. Benefits of BioPlastics and its contribution to

society
● Easier decomposition pattern
- Compared to conventional Miguel Gabrielle Valentino
plastic, Bioplastics have a better
chance of decomposing as
suppose to conventional plastic
that is impossible to break down.
● Lower Carbon Footprint
- Carbon dioxide will be stored
inside the plastic even though
the ongoing recycling and reusing
process.
● Litter
- Bioplastics provide excellent
biodegradability, helping in
dealing with the increasing
amount of litter, particularly in
our world’s water sources.

- For our Research Project, we are testing

the overall usage of BioPlastics through
making food utensils, to see the
durability, productivity of the product.
