Lesson idea implementation

The teacher will begin by talking about the different phases of the moon. Once she has gone over and
discussed the different phases, the students will do an activity to bring the different phases to life. Each
student will receive 8 oreos. Together, they will create each moon phase on their oreo by changing the shape
of the icing. This will allow students to compare the different phases of the moon.
Once they have completed the activity, students will then be put into groups. There will be 8 groups, and
each group will be assigned a different phase of the moon. Their job is to create a Padlet of that specific
phase. They will include the phase, why it occurs, how it occurs, and when it occurs. They will then post their
Padlet link to the class Padlet for every to see.

Reflective Practice: The students will create a new Padlet for their personal resource of all 8 moon phases.
They will use their classmates Padlets to help them get started. While looking at other’s padlet/moon phases,
they will have a chart to fill out to not only learn about the different phases, but also give feedback to their
peers.
