From The Teachers
This Wednesday is our field trip to The
Capitol Building and Michigan Historical Museum!
Chaperones aren’t needed for The Capitol tour but
are welcome to join us. We will meet chaperones at
the Michigan Historical Museum for self-guided
tours from 9:15-11:15. This is the part that we need
chaperones for. Chaperones should meet us at the
museum at 9:15 to get information and groupings.
To save time, we recommend putting our cell
numbers (listed below) into your phones.
Book Bingo is getting closer! Although the
actual event is not until March 27th, we need to start
collecting items for the silent auction that will take
place during Book Bingo. Any help in contacting
businesses to see if they are able/willing to donate
items, coupons or packages to our fundraiser would
be most appreciated. It is useful to know that each
business has a certain amount of money that can
be made as a tax-deductible donation. Doing so will
help provide a positive message of giving back to
the community and advertising for the company.

Social Studies/Science
Science/social studies time will be spent
focused around learning objectives for our field trip
this week. We are learning about historical context
around several of the exhibits at the museum and
continuing to learn about how our government
functions.
Math
Students continue to work on using
algebraic equations to solve multi-step word
problems.
At this stage of development, it may be
easier for students to solve the problem first using
other strategies they are already familiar with first,
and then figure out how to connect the equation
they have already created with one that is
algebraic. The purpose is to give kids practice in
constructing algebraic equations for problems that
they can make sense of prior to encountering more
difficult problems that require algebra to be used.
Reading
We are on unit 3, week 4 of our Reading
Street reading program. We are reading nonfiction
text and examining cause/effect relationships.
There will NOT be a spelling list/test this
week. Students will be taking required AIMSWEB
tests on Tuesday and will our field trip on
Wednesday, we want to focus our remaining time
on implementing some new literacy activities with
students.
Writing
Our persuasive writing is underway! We
apologize in advance for the parental headaches
this may cause.
They will learn how to identify points that
might be persuasive to their target audience and
then provide details and explanations to support
these points.
While they start off trying to persuade the
teachers for their first prompt, you will be the
audience for additional persuasive pieces.
