Teens Use Tik Tok to Talk about Difficult
Issues

TicTok is a social media platform filled with
short videos that feature dances, lip syncing,
and comedy. Recently, many Tik Tok users
are opening up about there persanal lives.
“A resolution for 2020”, Geipel said, “is to
share more about his mental-health struggles
after concussions stopped him from playing
sports.” Geipel is 18 years old. A student
from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, who is now
home-schooled. He mostly posts videos to
remind people that they matter. These
videos have led strangers to tell him what
his message meant to them. "The most
upsetting thing is how broken everyone is,"
said Geipel, who has 213,000 followers.
Yet, "the cool thing is everybody is open
about it." Tik Tok can now be a place for
people to open up with personal problems or
loneliness to help other people come out of
their shell. Many of these teens are talking
to people to make each other happier.
Experts say people have often turned to
online communities to find support.
However, they say Gen Z is different.
People in Gen Z were born from 1996 to
2010,"They've always grown up with social
support being found online as well as off,"
Lingel said. "The thing we really see with
Gen Z is their sense that their disclosures
online could really be a benefit to someone
else." Young teens are using Tik Tok to talk
about their personal problems so they can't
stay away from their parents. As for Geipel,
one of his most popular videos is simple.
Viewers see a black-and-white video of
Geipel talking about things teenagers have
to look forward to in life. He wanted to
remind them there is a future worth living
for, no matter how tough their world seems.

Ancient Gum Gives Genome

Ancient birch tar was found at an
excavation site, with prehistoric tooth
marks. What’s so special about old gum?
Well, for one, it reconstructed a human.
Hannes Schroder is a molecular
anthropologist, meaning she studies people
at a molecular level. “This is the first time
anyone has gotten a full genome from
anything other than bones and teeth,” she
says. “The preservation of the gum is
extraordinary, we didn’t expect to get a full
genome.” A genome is a complete D.N.A
record of a person. From the genome, we
can determine the person’s skin color, eye
color, sex, and much more. For instance, the
girl reconstructed from the gum had blue
eyes, dark skin, and dark hair.
Birch tar is made by heating up birch
bark, and thanks to its antiseptic qualities, it
was a very popular prehistoric toothbrush.
Children often chewed on the tar like gum,
leading us to believe that the girl was rather
young. Gum preserves really well in the
right conditions, making it a great substitute
for bones or teeth. However, you can almost
never find a full genome in a pack of gum,
making this a brilliant archeological find.

WWII Energy Bars

created the very common “Tootsie Roll.”
This tasty candy was the solution to the
cravings for the chocolatey flavor without
the melted mess in the summer months.
These candies went on the front lines during
WWII. This helped the business take off.
Tootsie Roll suckers were soon made and
the commercial with Mr. Owl was made.
This helped make Tootsie Pops thrive.

Australia’s Fires’ Effects on Animals

Imagine being a scientist and
studying an animal that is very rare that
someday you might just see. Then, all of a
sudden your chances go from 50:50 to
25:75. Why did your chances go down?
Because of the Australian fires that have
destroyed 33% of Australia or “Kangaroo
Island” (Brulliard). Many scientists in
Australia have been studying the dunnart
that is about the size of a mouse.
Before the horrid fires the rare
kangaroo was already endangered.
According to the website ​Newsela​, the fires
have burned down the whole area that the
dunnart is known to live in. Rosemary
Hohen is an ecologist who studies the
dunnart species. She told
Newsela​ that the dunnart is in
danger of going extinct. 1
billion + animals have been
harmed or killed in the fires
the University of Sydney also
told Newsela.
Another scientist tells ​Newsela​ that
many, very important animals to the
environment could be gone. She also says
that even if the animals do survive their
habitat is destroyed so they will die
anyways. Australia’s fires are harming the
environment and the government and
scientists are predicting many animals will
die. Many say that action toward the subject
of climate change should be taking place.
A scientist says that Australia might
take more responsibility than other countries
because it is more dry so climate change has
more of an affect on it. In conclusion, fires
in Australia harm the animals and
environment in horrible ways. The world
should know that animals are dying and they
may even go extinct. The government
should do things about climate change in
order to help the injured animals. Just
because these fires have already happened
doesn’t mean they can’t happen again and
harm more animals.

Nitro Circus Coming to Dayton, Ohio

Nitro Circus is on tour for 2020.
They have traveled the world but never
came this close to Ohio or Michigan within
their tour through the years.Over the years
they have made crazy stunts. For example,
they built a ramp then lit it on fire and did
tricks over the ramp on dirt bikes. This is a
huge deal for fans that can’t travel over the
borders or have seen them but want to see
them again. Travis Pastrana and his crew are
hitting the road this mid summer to tour for
the “You Got This” tour. They are coming
to Dayton, Ohio May 15, 2020 . Tickets are
flying through the door like crazy. The

Disease

forward and announced that he has Lyme
Disease. He also said he has battled ​chronic
mononucleosis. The illness has affected his
skin, brain and overall health. There will be
a documentary explaining more about his
disease soon. "It's been a rough couple of
years but getting the right treatment that will
help treat this so far incurable disease and I
will be back and better than ever," Bieber
wrote.

History of the Super Bowl

The Super Bowl is a huge sporting
event that takes place once every year to
determine the championship team of the
National Football League (NFL). Millions of
football fans gather around their television
on a Sunday in either January or February.
The Super Bowl is one of the most-watched
sporting events in the world, broadcasted in
over 170 countries. Fans not only look
forward to the football, but to the halftime
shows, celebrity appearances, and hilarious
commercials.
Although the Super Bowl officially
formed in 1920, the Super Bowl didn’t
happen until over 40 years later. In 1960, a
group of businessmen who were denied by
the NFL, decided to launch their own
league, known as the American Football
League (AFL). For several years, the NFL
and AFL were rivals, competing for fans,
players, and support. Then, in 1966, the
owners created an agreement to merge the
leagues by 1970. The first Super Bowl,
which featured the AFL and NFL
champions, took place in 1966. After the
leagues merged, the NFL split into two main
conferences: the American Football
Conference (AFC) and the National Football
Conference (NFC). The champions of each
conference then play in the Super Bowl.
While some people may just
consider the Super Bowl a silly football
game, the Super Bowl has become a unique,
shared experience in American culture. It’s
likely the only time of the year that viewers
are glued to television screens watching the
same broadcast, even if they don’t care
about the teams or the outcome of the game.
The Super Bowl combines sports, music,
and advertising into one extreme event and
provides a fascinating picture of what many
Americans consider ideal entertainment.

Donald Trump Impeachment

Donald Trump is the president of the
United States right now, but that all might
change. On Wednesday, December 18th at
Capital Hill, Washington D.C. the
lawmakers decided to hold a vote, one side
of the vote said “Trump used the power of
the office in a bad way” which meant he
used it to help himself. The second vote said
“Trump blocked congress which meant he
kept people from finding out what he was
doing.” Mr. Donald Trump says the charges
are made up. The Democrats that are against
Trump said they had no right in making the
charges. On the other hand, the Republicans
are on Trump's side and disagreed with the
Democrats.

In Reversal, Hallmark will reinstate gay
marriage ads

The Hallmark channel annouced they
will be showing same-sex couples
commercials on television. They stopped
showing same-sex couples after a complaint
in a group chat. ​The decision made by
Hallmark's company, was to remove several
ads for the wedding planning site Zola
featuring two brides kissing at the altar had
launched a storm of protest. The protest was
about how telivision channels should only
show differnt sex commericals, but
Hallmark didn’t want to leave other people
out. Starting in March, Hallmark will show
same-sex commercials.

Grizzly Bear Death Rates Are Climbing

Most Grizzly bear deaths are caused
by trains. Trains have always been a threat
to wild bears, but last year was the worst it's
ever been. Eight bears were found dead on
train tracks, but many more were probably
killed. Trains aren't the only cause for
Grizzly Bear deaths is also due to poaching,
cars, and the removal of bad/harmful bears.
Last year fifty one dead grizzly bears were
found. In 2017, only twenty nine bears were
found dead. The Grizzly death rate as you
can tell is increasing dramatically over the
years. The increased death rate could also be
because of the increase in the Grizzly bear
population.

Yearbook class

This is an article to inform students about
what happens in yearbook because not many
people know what we do in yearbook class.
To start off the teacher of this class is
Mr.Lewis. He teaches us about many topics
we may need to use in real life: some of
these consist of: typing the right way,
writing a good interesting article, how to
cite, and many other things. We also have to
make a newspaper every week and it is a
super fun class. If you are interested and
would like to talk to someone or come and
see for yourself what we do here in this class
come and ask Mr. Lewis or one of the
students. The class is fun if you want it to be
you get out what you put in. This class is
very important because the people in this
class make the year book you all can buy.
