REACTION PAPER: ADOLESCENT HEALTH SITUATION GLOBALLY AND IN THE PHILIPPINES.

SUMMARY :

The journal is about the life on the adolescent in Philippines and how they are been exposed to
various dangers, as we know adolescents are risk-takers, this has led to one of the leading cause of
death in adolescents today which is road injury but this only apply for the males, also among the leading
cause of death varies from lower respiratory infections to maternal conditions in the older, many
adolescent disease and injuries are preventable or treatable they are often neglected ,from the research
made by WHO, leading risk factors also include alcohol abuse which is really rampant, unsafe sex,
which led to outbreak of HIV/AIDS among this age group, also some due to lack of health resources had
worsened health condition and are been or stigmatized due to ill health.

IMPLIATION TO NURSING:

AS a student nurse we should educate this adolescent on how to prevent this diseases and try to
counsel them on alcohol abuse , unsafe sex and it risk factors , to prevent more damage to the
adolescent percentage of the community, also seminars should be made on how parents can assist this
adolescent to live a better life .

IMPLICATION TO EDUCATION :

The situation remains potentially serious to the community . as a nursing student , campaign and
seminars should be organized to enlighten the community about adolescent health and how to prevent
most death cases, counselling also should be made available for adolescents to freely share their views
on their own personal health and lifestyle .

IMPLICATION TO RESEARCH :

Future research should define the risk factors in a bigger way, the research should be made on a
wider scale including more nations . It should include collection of data from the patient’s perspective in
order to identify additional risk factors and potential management problems leading to adolescent
death.

PERSONAL REACTION:
I agree with the journal considering, considering what I’ve seen personally, adolescent should be well
taken care of not neglected by the society to fend for themselves especially the females which are easily
influenced by peer pressure, families should not consider them as adults ,but they should guide them as
they are in a delicate stage of their life which might determine their future.
