One property of light is called refraction. Refraction is when a ray of light passes from a
transparent medium to another transparent medium such as from air to water, it changes
speed and the way it bends.
For example, when a pencil is placed into a glass of water, the pencil will seem like it is
broken into two pieces. Because the light is traveling through the water, there is refraction,
and the light bends causing the pencil to look like it is in two pieces. Another example of
refraction is the use of eyeglasses to improve a person's vision. Using a glass that is curved
at a certain angle the vision of a person is corrected by the way light is refracted in the eye.

2. The main idea of the second paragraph is ....

A. Light is travelling through the water.
B. There are two examples of refraction.
C. The using of glasses in the eyes is refraction.

A sinkhole is a depression or hole in the ground caused by some form of collapse of the
surface layer of the earth. Most are caused by karst processes — for example, the chemical
dissolution of carbonate rocks or suffusion processes.
Sinkholes vary in size from 1 to 600 m (3.3 to 2,000 ft) both in diameter and depth.
They also vary in form from soil-lined bowls to bedrock-edged chasms. They may form
gradually or suddenly, and are found worldwide.
The formation of sinkholes involves natural processes of erosion or gradual removal of
slightly soluble bedrock (such as limestone) by percolating water, the collapse of
a cave roof, or a lowering of the water table. Sinkholes often form through the process
of suffusion. For example, groundwater may dissolve the carbonate cement holding
the sandstone particles together and then carry away the lax particles, gradually forming a
void.

4. In the second paragraph, we found the information about … of the sinkhole

A. the variation
B. the definition
C. the formation
