How To Use A Temp Mail

As the name suggests, a temp mail is a temporary or a disposable email ID. It is also called as a ten-minute mail
because it is very quick to create a temp mail ID and the duration of the temp mail is short – temp mail ID gets
deleted in a few hours or a few days. A temp mail is anonymous, secure and free. It helps to keep a regular email
clean and secure. Also, unlike a regular email, a temp mail ID one can only receive email and cannot send. A temp
mail can be deleted without worrying about losing important data.

Like a regular email (e.g. Gmail, Yahoo, etc.), a temp mail ID can be created by online temp mail service providers.
The process of registration for a temp mail ID is simple and extremely short as compared to a regular email
registration. While a regular email set up process requires name, address, date of birth and other information to be
provided, no such personal information is required to set up a temp mail ID. In fact, there is no “registration”
required to create a temp mail ID. Most temp mail service providers automatically generate an anonymous temp
mail ID. One can still change the name in the email ID but it is no way tied to one’s name or any other information.
Depending on the service provider, a temp mail ID can be set to delete in a few hours or a few days. Once deleted,
one can still access the messages in the service provider’s website. Since a temp mail only receives mails, messages
can only be viewed in the website and there is no need to send or reply to messages. Some service providers also
allow users to create multiple email aliases.

A temp mail should be used as a “burner email account”. When its purpose is over, one can delete the temp id. So, a
temp mail is a real email ID (unlike a fake email) but not tied to one’s name or any other online information. One can
use it to protect personal data and privacy. Since a temp mail account doesn’t exist for long, it is not easily hacked.

The primary purpose of a temp mail is to use it for registering emails on websites, discussion groups, or chat rooms
that may have a possibility of sending spam mails. That way a regular email is protected from unwanted mails and
spam. Since a temp mail gets deleted after a short duration, it should not be used for important communication.
Also, programmers often use temp mail addresses to test email functionality of applications. That saves them the
effort of creating regular email addresses just for temporary testing purpose.

Some of the best temp mail service providers that are available online include E4ward, 10minutemail, Mailinator,
TempMail and Guerrilla Mail.

In the digital world where anonymity is synonymous with security, temp mail is a sure way to protect privacy.
