CONTRASITIVE ANALYSIS BETWEEN MANGANESE DIOXIDE AND ZINC
OXIDE GRAFTED ON ACTIVATED CARBON FIBER ELECTRODES IN
CAPACITIVE DEIONIZATION OF BRACKISH WATER DESALINATION
Water cleanliness and quality have always been a problem to one's
health. As it is essential for daily living, consuming dirty water brings great risk on human's. Lack of freshwater resources to meet water demand is also an arising problem that has a great impact on farming and growing crops. Waster Scarcity was listed as one of the global risks by World Economic Forum in 2019. As for this reason, the researchers are proposing a comparative study beween manganese dioxide and zinc oxide grafted on activated carbon fiber electrodes in capacitive deionization of brackish water desalination Both manganese dioxide and zinc oxide showed potential on removing inorganic and organic compounds on water from past studies, The main objective of this study is to know which grafted activated carbon fiber will enhance the desalination and capacitive deionization of the brackish water for it to be suitable for drinking ard farming. Review of Related Literature
According on a journal written by Myint, M.t.2, Al-Harth,S.H. and Dutta, J.
(2014). Their study showed that Zinc Oxide microsheet grafted on activated carbon cloth enhanced salt removal efficiency if 22% as well as Zinc Oxide nanorod grafted on activated carbon cloth.
In accordance with the study, Electrodeposited Manganese
Dioxide/Activated Carbon Composite as a high-performance Electrode material for Capacitive Deionization by Liu, Y, Hsi,H, Li , K, and Heu, C. (2016). In their study, a superior electroabsorbtion capacity of 9.3 mg g-1 was presented by MnO₂ /AC composite electrode which was approximately 1.6 fold higher than pure AC electrodes. They concluded that the electrodeposited MnO₂ / AC composite is a potential electrode material for high performance CDI.
As stated on Development of Novel MnO₂ / nonporous carbon
composite Electrodes in Capacitive Deionization Technology by Hao, Z., Song, H., Yang-J., and Zou, L. (2011). It showed the capacitance of MnO₂ / carbon composites was higher then AC. It was also concluded that MnO₂ film provided a high surface adsorption capability and an effective cation intercalation.
Based from Fabrication of Zinc Oxide Nanorode modified activated
carbon cloth electrode for Desalination of blackish water using capacitive deionization approach conducted by Ai-Harthi, S.H., Dutta, J., and Myint, M.T.Z. (2012), ACC modified with Zinc Oxide enhanced salt removal or the desalination and regeneration efficiency.
