CEBU CITY, Aug.

28 (PIA) -- The Civil Service Month commemoration is not only a


celebration for the commission itself, but a celebration of all the workers of the government and
the commitment they have to serve the administration through all its thrusts and projects.

This was emphaszied by Civil Service Commission (CSC-7) on the civil service’s 119th
anniversary with the theme “Civil Service @119, Upholding Integrity and Building a High-Trust
Society" during the recent Kapihan sa PIA Cebu.

The month-long celebration kicked off on Sept. 1 with a run-for-a-cause at the University of the
Philippines (UP) Cebu Grounds.

Catering to those wanting to start a career as a civil servant, CSC will also hold a government job
fair that would gather different government agencies and departments in the region looking for
employees to fill in their vacancies.

Atty. Ariel B. Bacatan, Director III of CSC-7, said the commission will be inviting private
companies as well so that the participants of the job fair will have more options to choose from.

In the same forum, Charisse Estrella from CSC-7 urged interested applicants to pass the civil
service exam first before eyeing a position in government.

CSC-7 will also hold a foreign service exam on Feb. 2, 2020 while the next civil service exam
will be on March 15, 2020.

With the celebration of the Civil Service Month also comes the recognition of outstanding civil
servants.

The regional awards rites will be held on Sept. 11, at the Capitol Social Hall.

Dumaguete City Mayor Felipe Remollo Reminded city hall employees and all
other employees of government that to be in government is a privilege. Remollo
issued the statement as the local government unit celebrates the 117th Civil
Service month celebration with activities lined up for the whole month
celebration which will culminate on September 29, 2017.

He wanted to put a stop to employees getting promoted because they are “sip-
sip” or close friends with certain officials. The mayor assured them that the key
to promotion is hard work and being loyal to the assigned job coupled with the
right qualification and proper work attitude.
Under the Remollo administration, reforms are being instituted to
professionalize the service. One of which is addressing the mismatch vis-à-vis
the actual job description and the set skills of every employee to give him or
her the dignity of work. Part of the dress code is the wearing of barongs on a
designated working day of the week. The administration has also started filling
up vacant positions which were left vacant due to retirement or resignation,
started to computerized the release of salaries through the ATM, negotiated
with certain banks for the buying out of debts of city hall employees, and signed
a memorandum of agreement with the Social Security System for the
enrollment of job order and casual plantilla employees among others.

Councilor Lilani Ramon, chair of the committee on personnel who also sits in the
personnel selection board stressed that the only thing the Remollo
administration can promise is to stop the bad tradition of running after
employees who are not supportive of the victorious mayor to stop the bad
tradition of implementing mass lay-offs of job order employees who are
identified with the other camp.

In her message during the opening salvo of the 117th CSC month celebration,
Councilor Ramon likewise reminded them of the code of ethical standards
mandated to all government employees that they should not indulge themselves
in partisan activities especially during elections.

According to Ramon, the city mayor has directed the human resource office to
look into the welfare of city the employees, make sure their leave credits,
employment records, and other documents are in place so that when they need
them, they can be immediately available without any problem.

Assistant City Administrator and, at the same time, Human Resource Officer
Dinno Depositario disclosed transfer of personnel from one office to the other is
being implemented according to their qualifications, set of skills, and know how
for them to be more productive.
