Introduction

Many of the students today come to school late and as a result; their academic

performance is getting affected as well as their grades, and they will be able to miss

their classes as it affects their performance in class that is why many students should

get rid of this habit.

Having this kind of habit, tardiness presents lack of responsibility. Being tardy all the

time coming to class is a sign of careless and waste of time, or should we say not

prioritizing their study. Being on is not only a duty of a student but also part of having

good manners. Hence, students should know how to value their time and do their

responsible as a student to not to be tardy all the time. Tardiness is not much of an

issue to students nowadays, but it seems to be a normal thing to them. However, some

students reason about being tardy whether they are committed to or not or being peer

pressured.

When students come to a class late, it can result the disturbance of lecture,

distraction of their fellow classmates, impede learning, and generally erode class

morale. Moreover, if left unchecked, lateness can become chronic and spread

throughout the class because there many possible reasons why students arrive to class

late, considering which causes are the root of the problem can help guide instructors to

appropriate responses or strategies. However, understanding whatever the reasons of

students for being tardy it widely affects their academic performance other than being

marked by the teacher for being tardy. Furthermore, being late frequently can results of

having low grades or worse being dropped out of their course.

II. Body of the Research

According to researchers of this study, they found out that students who are

being frequently late in class miss out on important opening announcements and

academic activities. According to some studies, “Teachers can become frustrated as

late students can become disturbance during lectures, often requiring reteaching of

what they have missed. Tardy behavior can also negatively affect the overall

classroom environment.” Most teacher aims as they want all of their students to

learn many things from them as they are one of the factors to their students’ success

in life.

Arriving late at school can also results on students missing out on activities

designed to build connections with their peers, or should we say chances for the

students to socialization to others, potentially impacting their social interactions and

creating a greater sense of alienation from their classmates. Many of the students

that have tardiness in themselves as they are missing out chances to socialize or

meet other people and acquainted with them.

Other than that, the reality of our schooling system is the school stresses out the

student for the need of them to go school early or on time and with good reason.

However, students are being pressure and stressed out having the loads of work

that need to meet in a short span of deadline that’s why many students work

themselves overly to the point they’re offering their time until dawn or no sleep at all,

just to meet their deadlines or present their outputs on time. Hence, there are many

impacts of being tardy in school. 1. Having problems with tardiness, Having the most

crucial learning hours of a school day are the morning hours, many students tend to
miss their morning lectures because they are when students are most attentive and

also cause the disruption the lecture being held when they arrive. 2. In terms of

academics and achievement, students who are often late receive lower GPAs,

specially on the class that they miss, lower score on standardized assessments, and

their graduation rates becomes lower that results them to fail in school. 3. They

develop behavior problems because students who are frequently late have higher

rates of suspension and other disciplinary measures. Tardiness is one of the reason

why students are disconnected with their school, leading to behavior problems and

dropouts, according to the National Center for Education Statistics 2007 Indicators of

School Crime and Safety. 4. It also affects their job performance in the future

because if they apt to be fired for being always late or tardy the cause of their

development of tardiness in their selves as during their schooling days or

performance in school may reflect on their future job or career. 5. Being Tardy may

also affect others. It specially affect teachers and their fellow students negatively as

teachers need to do make up classes for the students with tardiness to cope up with

the lectures of classes that they’ve missed and tardiness also catches the attention

of other students from the teacher’s lesson, leading to more behavior problems and

missed instructions.

III. Conclusion

Punctuality is another essential school skill we consistently expect without

consistently and fully teaching. Once trained to be punctual, children show

lasting improvement. Students with tardiness develop this skill to prevent

tardiness in their selves as it widely affects their performance in school in a

negative way. However, developing punctuality isn’t a rapid absorption to the

students as it is should be practiced step by steps in order to avoid tardiness.

In addition, we should motivate students that have this kind of habit

convincing them that punctuality is an essential skill for them, often generates

more change than any approach though we don’t really know what

circumstance or cause why students are being late. Therefore, as part of the

solution we should address the source of the lateness of the student.
