50 CONCEPTUAL DESIGN PROGRAM

A. Design Philosophy

"The building derives its form partially from nature of the site".
- Frank Lloyd Wright
In his statement he also said that creative possibilities of form and color pattern,
texture, proportion and growth are all demontrated in nature.
He stressed that organic architecture does not imitate nature of materials, the site,
and the users of the building. Hence, this concept will be approriate as to support
sustainable and quality living.

B. Design Objective

The objective of this proposed project is to design according to four (4) C’s:
Connect - Propsing active links between functions and users.
Converge - Create common spaces for people to meet.
Converse - Providing spaces that encourage interaction and communication
between users, and between users and the building.
Commune - Encourage diversity, of uses and users, promoting social inclusion
and helping to build community.

C. Design Concept

cluster

linear

The combination of linear and cluster type of environment will be used in the
development of the site. This will allow line of arrangement for the maximation of
space as to provide the needs of its users through functional grouping. This concept
will improve the relationship of the different structures and facilities. This type of
planning will allow maximum contact of man and his activities around the area. Those
spaces that are important, functionally or symbolically within the organization can
take place anywhere in the linear sequence that will give relevance using their size
and shape and the cluster planning taht will arrange according to the importance to the
relationship of each spaces.
D. Design Character

The researcher will use the modern architecture, with this, the philosophy of
sustainability and truth to materials will be applied as of Organic architecture.
Organic Architecture is simple because its scheme and design are clear. Through this,
modern architecture may blend in. This will give a fresh look on on the city as well as
it can provide better solutions for proper and good ventilation approaches that may
lead to sustainability since our country belongs to a tropical climate.
\Sustainable design aims to balance the relationship between human and nature
which reflects on the efficiency of the design which is the function of the building as a
whole.

E. Design Strategy

1. Natural Ventilation ( Passive Cooling)

Passive cooling can be achieved by proper orientation and location of
building openings. Through this manner, HVAC systems and ather artificial
means of ventilation and energy waste may be avoided.

2. Daylighting ( Natural Lighting)

Daylighting is the use of light from the sun and sky to complement or replace
electric light. Approriate fenetration and lighting controls are used ot modulate
daylight admittance and to reduce electric lighting, while meeting the occupant’s
lighting quality requirements.
Daylighting is a beneficial design strategy for several reasons. Daylighting
may create pleasant, comfortable day lighted spaces may increase occupant and
owner satisfaction and may decrease absenteeism. It will provide comfortable,
pleasant, day lighted spaces may lease at better-than-average rates. And lastly,
Daylight contributes to a more sustainable design approach.
3. Use of Water Bodies (Heat Absorption)
Water as an element naturally absorbs heat. This will be helpful in the
cooling of the surroundings. Water has an effect not just into environment but
also to the people around it. Therefore, this will also be a visual form of
relaxation to the users that will visit the project.

4. Use of Landscape Features

This idea is not new to the field of sustainability, but the researcher finds this
approach very helpful into providing environmental and thermal comfort to the
surroundings.
Landscape features will create a livelier and healthy environment into both
commercial and residential development. Proper caring and maintenance will be
provided in order to bring a harmonious surrounding.
