Install and Configure computer Systems


PROCEDURES:
A. Installation of Operating System
1. Insert bootable device (CD, DVD, FLASHDRIVE, ETC.) which contains the
Operating System.
*For the Server, the OS must be Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard
*For the Client, the OS must be Windows 7 Ultimate

2. Press F12 for Toshiba Laptops and Fujitsu Desktops then choose the
bootable device you used, and F2 for NEC, then click Boot, then click 1st boot,
then choose the bootable device you used, then press F10 to save and restart.
3. Choose the correct Operating System.

4. Click NEXT and then click INSTALL NOW.

5. Check the “I accept…” then click NEXT and choose CUSTOM.

6. Delete all partitions.


*Look carefully the percentage of partitions that your assessor will give you.
Example: 50%

20% - HIDE

7. Click NEW. Take note the indicated numbers below.

8. Multiply those numbers by .50 (e.g. 152626 .50 = 76,313), delete the
152626 and type 76,313 then click APPLY.

9. Click NEW again then multiply 152626 to .30, type the answer then click
APPLY.

10. For the remaining 20%, leave it unallocated because as what your assessor
says, it must be hidden.

11. After partitioning, don’t forget to click the partition you made first (50%)
because the OS will be installed here, then click NEXT.

12. Wait for the installation of OS.

13. If you see “Restart in 10 seconds”, quickly remove the device you used to
install the OS.
B. Installation of Applications
1. Install the given applications.
*Have your presence of mind. Only install the applications the assessor told
you.*

Example :
* For the SERVER
-your assessor told you to install DRIVERS, MS OFFICE – WORD & ACCESS,
BROWSER AND ANTI-VIRUS. Be familiarized to your flashdrive so you can
easily locate the applications.
a. Install first the drivers.
b. Open MS OFFICE in your flashdrive then click CUSTOMIZE. Take note that
you only have to install MICROSOFT WORD and MICROSOFT ACCESS.
c. Install BROWSER.
d. Install ANTIVIRUS.

* For the CLIENT


-your assessor told you to install DRIVERS, MS OFFICE – EXCEL and
ANTIVIRUS.
a. Install DRIVERS.
b. Install MS OFFICE – EXCEL. (Click CUSTOMIZE, INSTALL MS EXCEL
ALONE.)
c. Install ANTIVIRUS.

For Example, the GIVEN IPs are:
Router – 192.168.4.1
Server – 192.168.4.2
Client – 192.168.4.3
Router Name : Your Name
Router Password : 12345678910

PROCEDURES:
1. Reset Router (Long Press the BLACK BUTTON)
2. Go to Browser and enter the Default IP Address of the Router
(192.168.0.1)
3. Log-in as admin. The Default username is admin and the Default password
is admin.
4. Change Router name.
-Go to “Wireless”, change the wireless network name then SAVE.
5. Change Router Password.
-Under “Wireless”, go to “Wireless Security” and change the Wireless
Password to “12345678910” as given.
6. Change Router’s IP Address.
-Go to “Network”, click “LAN” then change IP Address to 192.168.4.1 as
given.
7. Change Server’s IP Address.
- Open “Network and Sharing Center” then Click “Change Adapter
Settings”. Select and right click “Local Area Network”, click “Properties”,
double click the “IPv4”, click “Use the following IP address”, then change the
IP Address to 192.168.4.2 as given then click the Subnet Mask, ok, ok.
8. Change Client’s IP Address.
-Go to Client, and do the same thing as what you did in the server and change
the Client’s IP Address to 192.168.4.3 as given.
9. Turn off firewall.
- Click “Start”, type “fire” and click “windows firewall”. Click “Turn off
firewall on or off” and then click “Turn off firewall…”, close.
10. Check if there are connections between the Router, Server and the Client.
-Go to the Server, Press Windows+R, type “ping 192.168.4.1 –t” to check the
network connection of the router
-type “ping 192.168.4.2 –t” to check the network connection of server
-type “ping 192.168.4.3 –t” to check the network connection of the client
*Do this also to the Client.*

Set-up Computer Servers
Example Test Package:
1. Active Directory Domain Services (ADDS)
2. DNS – pcst.edu (may vary)
3. DHCP – Scopename: Any Name
Start IP Address: 192.168.3.1
End IP Address: 192.168.3.10
4. Organizational Unit and Folder Redirection
Users: User1 and PC1 Password: Tesda123
Folder Redirection: Desktop and Documents
5. REMOTE DESKTOP
6. PRINTER DEPLOYMENT
Printer: Epson LX-300+
7. Joining Client in Domain

INITIAL CONFIGURATION:
1. Disable DHCP
a. Enter Router using the Browser and type the IP Address of Router you put in
COC 2.
b.Click DHCP.
*For the Router having the Green background, Click “disable”, remove the
Start IP Address, End IP Address and the Default Gateway and SAVE. After
saving, click “CLICK HERE” and then “REBOOT”.
*For the Router having the Sky Blue background, just click “disable” and
SAVE.

2. Change the IP Address of the Router


- Go to “Network”, click “LAN” then change IP Address to 192.168.3.1, (You
must enter the appropriate IP Address.) click SAVE and REBOOT.

3. Change the IP Address of the Server


- Open “Network and Sharing Center” then Click “Change Adapter
Settings”. Select and right click “Local Area Network”, click “Properties”,
double click the “IPv4”, click “Use the following IP address”, then change the
IP Address to 192.168.3.2 then click the Subnet Mask, ok, ok.

4. Change/Provide Computer Name


-Click START, type “oobe”, click “Provide computer name and domain”, click
“change”, change computer name to “SERVER”.

5. Enable Remote Desktop


-Click START, type “oobe”, click “Remote Desktop”, click “Allow Connection
(less secure)”, then click ok.
6. Create Shared Folder
-Go to Drive D, make a new folder and name it “CSS”. Right click the folder
then click Properties, click Sharing, click Advance Sharing, Click Share this
folder, Click Permissions, click Remove, click Add, click Advanced, then
click Find Now and Select both ADMINISTRATOR and ADMINISTRATORS,
click ok, make it fully controlled, ok, ok, then close.

7. Obtain Client
- Open “Network and Sharing Center” then Click “Change Adapter
Settings”. Select and right click “Local Area Network”, click “Properties”,
double click the “IPv4”, Select Obtain an IP address automatically and
Obtain DNS server address automatically, then ok, ok.

*UNHIDING THE HIDDEN PARTITION*


-Click Start, right click Computer and click Manage. Expand “Storage”, click
“Disk Management”, select and right click the hidden partition, click “New
Simple Volume”, then Format.

COC 3:
1. Active Directory Domain Services (ADDS)
-Click START, type “oobe”, click “add roles”, click next, click Active Directory
Domain Services, click next, click “Add required…”, next, next, then click
“INSTALL”.

2. DNS – pcst.edu (may vary)


-Click START, type “dcpromo”, check “use advanced…”, next, click “Create a
new….”, next, type the DNS “pcst.edu” (note that the domain name may vary),
next, select “Windows Server 2008 R2”, next, Type the password of the
server then next, check reboot on completion.

3. DHCP – Scopename: Any Name


-Click START, type “oobe”, click add roles, next, click “DHCP Server”, next,
next, type IP Address of the Server then click Validate, next, next, click
“add”, type any Scopename, type the given Start and End IP Address, click
ok, next, click “Disable DHCP…”, next next then Install.

*THE CLIENT MUST GET THE DOMAIN AND CORRECT IP ADDRESS*


-To check, Go to Client, Disable and Enable Local Area Network, and check if
the Domain (pcst.edu) is being identified.

*If the client didn’t identify the Domain, troubleshoot it.


-Go to Server Manager, click Roles and click Remove Roles. Uncheck the
“DHCP Server”, then proceed. After that, go to Drive
C:/Windows/System32/DHCP and delete all the files inside the folder dhcp.
4. Organizational Unit and Folder Redirection
*ORGANIZATIONAL UNIT
- Click START, click Administrative Tools, click Active Directory Users and
Computers, expand created Domain (e.g. “pcst.edu”), select and right click the
Domain (e.g. “pcst.edu”), click New, click Organizational Unit, and name the
folder “CSS”, click Ok.
- Right click the folder “CSS”, click New, click user, and name it (e.g. “user1”)
as given, click next, uncheck the first check box and check the 2nd and 3rd
check box then type the given Password, (e.g. “Tesda123”).
-Create again another user, (e.g. “PC1”). Right click the folder “CSS”, click
New, click user, and name it “PC1” as given, click next, uncheck the first
check box and check the 2nd and 3rd check box then type the given
Password, (e.g. “Tesda123”).
-After creating users. Select all created users then right click, then click add
to a Group, then click Advanced, then click Find Now, then select
Administrators, then Ok, Ok, Ok, then close.

*FOLDER REDIRECTION
-Click START, click Administrative tools and click Group Policy
Management. Expand Forest, expand Domain, expand created Domain (e.g.
“pcst.edu”), right click created OU (e.g. “CSS”) then click “Create GPO..”, then
type anything. Right click the created GPO and click Edit. Expand User
Configuration, Expand Policies, expand windows settings, click Folder
Redirection, right click DESKTOP (as given), click Properties, change “not
configured..’ to “BASIC…” then copy the Network Path of your shared
folder (e.g. “\\server\css”). (Go to your shared Folder, then Right Click, then
click Properties, then click Sharing then copy the Network Path of your
shared folder) and then paste in the Root Path. Do the same thing for the
DOCUMENTS.

5. REMOTE DESKTOP
-Go to START, > Administrative Tools, Right click Remote Desktop Services,
click Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration, click “Restrict each
user…”, double click that then uncheck “Restrict…”, ok.

6. PRINTER DEPLOYMENT
-Click Start, type “oobe”, click add roles, next, select Print & Document
Services, next---, Install then close.
-click START, then Administrative Tools, click Print Management, Expand
Print Servers, expand Server Local, click Printers, right click anywhere in the
table and click “Add printer”, click “Add a new printer”, next-, click (e.g.
“Epson”) then find (e.g. “Epson Lx-300+”), next, install, then finish. Right
click the added Printer, click “Deploy with Group Policy”, browse, click the
created GPO (e.g. “CSS.PCST.edu”) then click (e.g. “CSS”), check the two
boxes, click add, apply, ok--.
7. JOINING OF CLIENT TO DOMAIN
-Go to Client, Click START, Right click Computer and click Properties, click
change settings, click change, type the Domain, click ok, then type
Administrator and then type the Password of the Server. Click ok, then
restart. After restarting click Switch user, then other user, then login as (e.g
“user1”), then type the password (e.g. “Tesda123).
CHECKING:
1. FOLDER REDIRECTION
-After logging in the user created (eg.user1). Create any file on the desktop
then Go to Server, go to your shared folder and there should be a automatic
folder named user1, then Click Desktop, click continue, click “security tab”,
click continue, click Administrator, ok,ok,ok. If your created file on the
desktop of the user is there then FOLDER REDIRECTION is correct.

2. PRINTER DEPLOYMENT
-Go to client, click START, click Devices and Printers. If the printer you
deployed is there then PRINTER DEPLOYMENT is correct.

3. REMOTE DESKTOP CONNECTION


-Go to client, Click START, click “Remote Desktop Connection”, Enter Server
IP Address, Select Use Another Account and type Administrator then type
the password of the Server. Then wait for a while, then a window will prompt
just click YES.

ADDITIONAL TASKS
1. REMOTE APP
-Go to Start, type “oobe”, add roles, click next, click “Remote Desktop
Services”, next---, then select first box, install, select second box, click “add
required…”, check “Core Services”, check “Remote Desktop Licensing”,
next, click “Require…”, next, click Per Device, next----, Install, close, no, then
Restart.
*To check the Remoted App:
-Start > Administrative Tools, Right click Remote Desktop Services, click
Remote App Manager, Right click the lower portion (table), click “Add
Remote App Programs”, next, click “everything”, next, finish, select and
right click the program, click create “.rdp file”, next, browse, expand Drive
C, Go to Local Disk D, Go to User1, Go to Desktop, then click OK, next, and
Finish.

2. Exclusion
-Start > Administrative Tools, click DHCP, expand “pcst.edu”, expand “IPv4”,
expand scope, click “Address Pool”, right click the “New…”, type the Start
and End IP Addresses given by your assessor. Then go to Client and check if
it received the correct IP Address.
3. Remote Desktop Vice Versa
-Right Click COMPUTER, click Remote Settings, click “allow..”, OK, click
Remote Desktop, OK then switch account.

Maintain and Repair Computer Systems and
Networks
1. Release Client on Domain
-Click Start, right click Computer, click Properties, click Change Settings,
Login as Administrator and type Password of the Server, OK, click Change,
Click Workgroup and type “WORKGROUP”, OK, OK, Restart.

2. Remove Roles (SERVER)


-Type “dcpromo”, next, OK, check Delete (wait), next, check Delete again,
next, type Password of the Server, next, check reboot on completion and
wait.
-After rebooting, go to “Server Manager”, then expand Roles, then Expand
File Services, then click Share and Storage Management, then click your
Shared Folder and click Stop Sharing, then click Roles, then click remove
roles, next, uncheck all roles, next--, click remove, close, click yes and wait
then Restart.

3. Delete Files of DHCP and DNS


-Go to Drive C:/Windows/System32/dhcp and delete all the files inside the
folder dhcp, then Click Back then enter the folder dns and delete all the files
inside the folder dns.

4. Format Drive D
-Go to Computer, right click DRIVE D, Format then click start.

CREATING A BOOTABLE FLASHDRIVE


• Plug in your flashdrive.
• Open command prompt
• Type “DISKPART”
• Type “LIST DISK”
• Select the Disk # of your flashdrive by typing “select disk #”
• Type “clean”
• Type “create partition primary”
• Type “select partition 1”
• Type “active”
• Type “Format FS=NTFS quick”
• Type “Assign”
• Type “Exit”
