APPENDIX A
INTERPR ETATION OF TEMPER-ATURE SPECIFI CA TIOIVS

It is usrial for staldard methods of test to qlrote a tolerance of tfC. or its cquivalent. for
the relevant thermal conditioning. The strict interprctation of this requirement is that the
specitied tolerancc of t,PC, sets the upper and lower limits for the tempcratrlre at any of
4
(\ the infinite nr"rmber of possible sitss rvithin tlie enciosire at any timc during a use of the
CA
t\ elclosure subsequent to the test itself. It is impossiirle to establish from a finite sct of
t\
(o measurements whether or not this condition wiii apply. Furthcrmorc, the results would be
arhitary sioce they r.vill also depentl rrn th$ r-:hoiee of tesl .sensor.
4)
The test method described in this standard assurnes a practical interpretation of tcmpcratnre
!c tolerances given in rnaterial specifications. The allorvetl toierance tX"C is treated as
o equivalent to a'specifiedoverall variation'in temperature o1'2X"C (2\'C is thus delined
as cquivalent to -&,) and the enclosure is considercd satisfactor3 if thc nreasured overall
o variation does not exceed 2.X'C. Test nleasurements are made using sensors of defined
ao response and accuracy placed at sites of specified nrimb,lr and location as shorvn in !'ig. 2.
