10.20 Weathering resistance test

10.20.1 Test specimen: Three specimen each one with size 100×100 mm.
10.20.2 Weathering resistance test in the lab (reference test method)
10.20.2.1 Test instrument:
a) Aging machine:
– the upper part: control plate. Including different kinds of control instruments
and switches, by which temperature , humidity , rainfall and the rainfall periods
can be changed.
– the middle part: the lab of the test. It is made from stainless steel, container
surrounded by thermal insulation material to increase temperature preservation
performance. The light source (xenon light) is hung up in the middle of the lab,
also there is a whirling drag that does the average motion around the source light
to make sure that the specimen which lies on the drag has enough and average
sunlight. At the back or side of the lab, there are several nozzles, they can imitate
the natural rainfall to spew water towards the specimen on time and automatically.
The lower part: humidity transmitting box (producing the moisture), wind-
producing machine, etc
b) gloss-testing instrument.
c) color-testing instrument.
d) magnifier lens.

10.20.2.2 Method of test:

The test shall be done in the man-made accelerated aging test machine Using the
6KW xenon light to shine continuously, the specimen that is put on the top of the
drum is whirling around the xenon light with the speed of 1r/min .The black board
temperature (using the black board temperature instrument to test) is (55+3) ºC, the
relative humidity is 65%+5%, the rainfall period is 18min per 120 min. When the
shining area is less than 800w/m2, the light tube should be changed because the
shining degree will be decreased through the time passed, in the test, the water must
be distilled water to avoid any dust influencing the test.
Of course, there is also deviation if only using the time to test; the shining energy
will decrease because of the aging light. Therefore, the total shine energy shall be
used as a reference, and shall be not less than 6000MJ/m2.
The color and gloss degree and visual condition shall be checked before the test,
and a mark shall be done. The color and gloss degree and visual condition in the
same place after 2000h shall be tested, then calculate the color deviation and gloss
reduction rate observing the quantity and degree of the coating crack, the bubble
degree and other visual condition, then judge the appropriate grade by means of
comparing with the following requirement as shown in Table (10):
