▪ Semi-unitized curtain wall glazing system is a type of structural glazing
where the primary structural framing components are erected
individually as an erector set.
▪ In this set, the vertical mullions are attached first to the floor slabs and
the horizontals are attached to the vertical mullions to resemble a grid.
▪ The glass panel and the spandrel, which can be either glass or
aluminium, are shop glazed and installed into the assembled grid work.
▪ The joineries and perimeter sealants are fields installed.
▪ The semi unitized systems largely anchored to the face of the slab as
embedded plates or inserts.
▪ Its also called hybrid system.
In this system, the mullion members are separately installed first, then pre-
assembled framing units are placed between them. These units may be full story
height, or they may be divided into a spandrel unit and a vision glass unit
Advantages of Semi-Unitized Glazing
This system need large amount of labour for field jointing work and the
erection time is comparatively greater.
In semi-unitized systems the mullions and transoms are installed at site. The
glass units are assembled in the factory along with the clips which are
transported to the site and hooked on to the installed framework. In this
systems a variety of elevational profiles in the finished glazing is possible,
including inclines and curvatures. This is a perfect tool transform the architects
visualization into reality
In this system the vertical mullions and horizontal transoms are installed
on MS/SS/Aluminium brackets which are anchored to the
columns/slabs. Cut to size glass is structurally glazed to the Aluminium
sub frame by structural sealant. The sub frame with the glass is installed
on the Grid work. In the above system 50% of the work is done at site.
