Failure to adhere to the following instructions may make you ineligible for payment
and/or participation in future projects.

Requirements for Participation

You must meet the following qualifications in order to participate. You will not be paid
if the recording participant does not qualify.

• You must be 13 years or older

• Must have an active Facebook Account of having at least 25+ friends, have liked
or checked-in to a page, responded to an event
• Be a fluent speaker of English from one of the following countries:
o Argentina
o Belarus
o Canada
o Chile
o Colombia
o France
o Germany
 o Jamaica
o Japan
o Kazakhstan
o Peru
o Portugal
o South Korea
o Spain
o Taiwan
o Ukraine
o Vietnam

Overview
Appen is currently collecting data to train and develop artificial intelligence
algorithms behind voice recognition technology. Developing this technology requires
voice data across a range of different scenarios of how people would search for content
on social media. Therefore, in this project you will need to create and record English
search commands you would wish Facebook to search for.

We would suggest in order to carry out this task successfully, you should create and
prepare a list of commands first before you perform the task as there will be no
instruction prompt to you during the recordings.
Please Note: For this project, we will have to activate the voice search feature on your
Facebook account that you have provided to perform the task. It may take 8-12 hours
for the voice search tool to become enabled on your Facebook account, and once it
appears you may directly start recording.

If you still unable to see the voice search feature, you can try to kill/restart your
Facebook App or restart your mobile device.

Task Details
What you will need

• An Android running on Lollipop or later or

• An iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch running on iOS 9.2 or later
• Familiar with the basics of Facebook App

What you will do

1. Download the latest Facebook App from

o Google Play Store or
o iTunes App Store
2. Click on the Microphone feature on your search bar to start recordings.
3. You are required to create and record 150 English search commands for this
task.
4. You must record the first 60 commands in a QUIET environment with no
background noise and the rest 90 commands in a NOISY environment with
some background noise. You will have to take note on this as there will be no
instructions in Facebook App to let you know when to change from a quiet to a
noisy environment.

Things to note:

• Please remember to speak in as natural a voice as possible.

• Please complete all recordings in one go for this project.

Please Note, we check all recordings manually and occasionally may reject some
for quality reasons, such as the following:

• Incorrect language or accent for the project.

• Age of voice not matching that of the project. E.g. An adult voice on an
elder task.
• A large amount of background noise.
• Speech is unrelated to the requested topic.
• Speech is incomprehensible.
• The audio is not recorded in the requested noisy/quiet environment.
Failure to follow these guidelines may make you ineligible for the incentive payment
and/or participation in future tasks.

Incentive
The incentive for this task is displayed on the task tab on the home screen. Please note,
all recordings will go through quality checks. Payment for task completion will only
be paid if the participant is eligible and recording is accepted according to task
requirement. In addition to that, only good transcription audio will be accepted
and get paid for it.

Incentive for all participants you registered will be paid to your account. Participants
who did not qualified for this task or did not provide profile details for this task will not
get paid.

This task is paid at task rate not hourly rate. The payment rate displayed on the Projects
home page is for full completion of the task.
