MPOCC is an organisation responsible for the development and operation of the Malaysian
Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) Certification Scheme in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and
Sarawak.

MPOB is a government agency that serves the country’s oil palm industry. Its main role is to
promote and develop national objectives, policies and priorities that improve the Malaysian
oil palm industry.

Function of MPOB
• Implement policies and development programmes ensuring viability of the oil palm
industry in Malaysia.
• Conduct industry-related research and development.
• License, regulate and coordinate all industry-related activities.
• Develop, promote and commercialise research findings; act as a resource and
information centre in disseminating research and information on oils and fats.

the Malaysian oil palm industry.

Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) is a corporate body under the Ministry of Primary Industries.
Its mission is to promote the market expansion of Malaysian palm oil and its products; through
building awareness of economic, environmental and technological advances.

Sarawak Oil Palm Plantation Owners Association is a non-profit whose members cover
approximately 65 percent of planted area in Sarawak. This includes large oil palm
plantations, government land development agencies, medium-sized estates and small-
holders. SOPPOA is mandated to catalyse sustainable development in the palm oil
industry in Sarawak.

As of 2019, Sarawak was the state with the largest


oil palm planted area for the second year running;

NASH is an NGO representing smallholders’ views that has more than 100,000 members
through Malaysia. NASH is recognised by the government and has representatives in
many government agencies.

Members of NASH have grouped themselves through a cooperative movement know as


Koperasi Ladang Pekebun-Pekebun Kecil Malaysia Berhad, which owns two estates:

1. Sungai Ambat Estate, Mersing, Johor, with a total acreage of 4,857 planted with oil
palm;

2. Bukit Keramat Estate, Kemayan, Negeri Sembilan, with a total acreage of 1,235 planted
with oil palm.

Beside these two estates, this cooperative has also diversified its activities to include
activities such as estate management, palm oil nurseries, trading of planting material,
trading of Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFB) and trading of agriculture products.

PELITA is a state-owned statutory body formed to catalyse land development in

The National Union of Plantation Workers (NUPW) is a trade union representing skilled,
semi-skilled and manual plantation workers in Peninsular Malaysia. Plantation workers in
Sabah and Sarawak are excluded from membership, per the Trade Unions Act 1959 – which
does not allow a trade union based in Peninsular Malaysia to extend its reach to those in
Sabah and Sarawak.

NUPW represents plantation workers at the National Labour Advisory Council (NLAC),
National Wages Consultative Council (NWCC) and Tripartite Committee for the
promotion of ILO’s (International Labour Organisation) Decent Work Agenda.

The MTUC is a federation of trade unions recognised by the Malaysian Government,


representing members across all major industries in the country. Through the National
Joint Labour Advisory Council, the MTUC works with the government to improve labour
laws in Malaysia.

In addition to legal and policy-level work, the MTUC helps organise workers and unions,
mediates inter-union grievances, and aids in collective bargaining efforts.
