CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

Instagram, is one of the largest social media platforms today. Mainly used to share

photos and videos fromsd their lives, was first developed by Kevin Systrom and Mike

Krieger, and first given the name Burbn back in its prototype stages. They decided in

taking out all the features of the app except for uploading photos, commenting and liking,

because they thought of Burbn as way too similar to other apps that were already

established in the market, focusing solely on communication through pictures. It was then

renamed by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger as Instagram which referred to the fact that

the users of the app are sending a type of instant telegram, thus the name Instagram.

Instagram has several functions, image editing, filters, public and private profile,

and several others, but the main feature that is mainly used today by just about everyone

is the Instagram Story feature. The feature of Instagram Story allows you to share a

picture or video content in a slideshow format, another feature of this is that the

Instagram Story is a time limited post where you would only have 24 hours to see the

post made by another user.

Instagram currently has one of the largest numbers of users per month, with one

billion active monthly users and five hundred million daily users (We Are Social. [2019].

found out to be much more popular to users than regular Instagram Posts. With the main

reason being that Instagram Stories are a lot more interactive with the users and their

numbers more and more people have been using Instagram Stories as a way to market

their own personal brand.

With more models using Instagram Stories as a way to market their own brand

and make honest income, there comes the people who use it to for prostitution. A

common way it gets started is that when a model gets a message in their “DM’s” by a

client if the model is available on specific dates to come with him to have some “fun”,

from a local dinner date to a luxurious trip on a yacht. The rate can range from 10,000

php up to 500,000 php, sometimes higher. To hear more information about the offer the

contact asks the model to use WhatsApp or other messaging application so the

The purpose of this qualitative research is to discover why Instagram Stories are

considered to be a more popular than regular Instagram Posts to Grade 11 Senior High

School Students of the City of Las Piñas.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The Researchers aim to answer the following questions

 What is the reason why Instagram Users would prefer to use Instagram

Stories rather than just regular Instagram Posts when sharing photos and

videos?

 What are the advantages the users of Instagram find satisfactory about

Instagram Posts?

 What situations would users most likely use the Instagram Story for?

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION

This qualitative research focuses on why Instagram Stories are more popular than

Instagram posts. This qualitative research is limited to Senior High School Students who

have Instagram and uses the Instagram Story feature. This research would also be seeking

to know which situations would it be better to use Instagram Stories as. The respondence

to the qualitative research would be Grade 11 Senior High School Students of the City of

Las Piñas. The number of the expected respondents are 50 students.

This qualitative research focuses on why Instagram Stories are more popular than

Instagram posts. This qualitative research is limited to Senior High School Students who

have Instagram and uses the Instagram Story feature. This research would also be seeking

to know which situations would it be better to use Instagram Stories as. The respondents
