I. Introduction

One of the requirements in our Crop Production subject is

the application of learnings through the actual laboratory which
is to plant a crop, and apply the cultural management practices
in order to survive and produce a commodity. The crop we used
was the okra, According to our Instructor it is recognized as
protein supplements, and is cheap, abundant and easy to grow.
Our class were divided into groups, where every group has
different measurement of plot. Our group has the width of 1
meter, and 5 meters length. At the end of the semester, each
group required to harvest its product as a compliance for the
requirement in Crop Production.

Okra (Hibiscus esculentus) is a tall growing, warm season

and annual vegetable crop. It is one of the popular vegetable
that can be seen in the market in the country. The young and
tender fruit can be prepared for viands and other dish. Okra is
rich in vitamins A,C and COMPLEX, PROTEINS, calcium,
fats ,potassium ,phosphorus, iron and carbohydrates.

II. Objectives

• To attain the requirement in Crop Production.

• To obtain learning and skills in Crop Production

• To apply the knowledge earned in this subject.

A. The materials we used in planting are as follows:

• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for personal safety

purposes.

• Okra Seeds as the inputs.

• Grab Hoe/ Bolo for cutting tall grasses, and weeds. And for
tilling the soil.

• Water Sprinklers for watering the soil and plants.

B. Methods (Cultural Management Practices)

1. Land Preparation

• We first removed the unwanted weeds grown in the area, and

then we till the soil to reduce the unnecessary soil lumps.
After tilling, we measure it as one meter width, and five
meters length. We use the Hill Method.

2. Fertilizer Application (Basal Type)

• After preparing and cleaning the area, we are allowed to

apply an organic fertilizer on each plot. We used the Basal type
of fertilizer. After applying the fertilizer on the exact
amount, we water the soil to avoid the evaporation of the
substance.

3. Planting

• We now plant the Okra in a very low moisture of soil to make

them germinated. Because in order to germinate the seeds need
moisture. After placing the seeds in their appropriate location,
we water it again.

4. Water Management

• On our first week of planting, we water it every after two

days. To avoid seed contamination, due to high content of water.

5. Harvesting.

In our first harvest we gained one half kilo of okra while

in second harvest we gained one fourth kilo. Due to Typhoon we
are not able to harvest to remaining fruit. The other okra was
reached it maturity and can no longer good for consumption.

IV. Results and Discussion

The area that was given to us, has benefited of too much
exposure from the sunlight. It is very droughty, that's why we
need to maintain the water management in the areas, in order to
produce an optimum yield. The plant population in our plot was
20 seeds every plot unfortunately not all seed germinated but it
was still good enough because we still able to gained fruit
after 2 months. Since okra doesn’t require too much amount of
water ,we only watered it thrice a week. Even we failed to put
fertilizer for the crop, the soil was fertile and gave the
nutrients needed by the plant.

V. Conclusion

Good soil condition and proper management to crop can result to

good harvest especially in watering system.
