As a requirement to Passed our subject in Animal Science 2.There are three (3)

activities we need to do before end of this semester. Farrowing, Castration, and Iron injection

are the laboratory exercises need to do. Animals what you have in your house you need to

make a narrative report.

We have different animals in our backyard like chicken, duck, and also pigs. We have a

lot of pig: piglets, sow and fatteners. One of our sow farrowed on August 19, 2019.It start to

labor 11 am .On that day, I went to school so I am afraid to missed that activity. I prayed to

stop the farrowing and I want to come early. When I went home Luckily, the sow is still

farrowing. It has 3 piglets comes out. I assessed the sow until the rest of pig comes out. As I

observed the sow is difficult to farrowed because of the disturbance of noise and children

around me. I’m the one who assessed the sow until the end of farrowing, it has 3 pigs come

out .Then during farrowing one piglet died. The materials needed are already to use so I’m

holding a clean clothes to wipe out the bloods and served as a calendar. I use the blade to cut

the umbilical cord. The piglets put in the clean dry, warm, area.

Every activity, you conducted you need to calm down to be not stressed the sow. Avoid

of making a noise it will disturbed the continuously of farrowing.

Iron injection it will be performed 3 days after farrowing. On the second day of our

weekend duty the care taker of piggery farm Gerald demonstrate and teach us to inject the iron

to the piglet. Before we conduct, he said something important to be followed. He is the first

inject to the piglets then we followed by our group mate. I’m a second to the last to performed,

I feel nervous and I think the piglets it will hurt after the injection. I’m successfully done and

refresh my mind. It is good in feeling to have another experienced.

LESSON LEARNED

These three activities, it will easy to do if you have knowledge about that. It is first

time to handle that situation, but the end of the activities. I’m proud and happy not because to

pass my subject but because to have an experienced. It will be used in the future if you are

planning to have business you don’t hired people. My knowledge, learning and experience it

would be my strength. I will shared those learning to others.I have learned more to my

experienced even it is my first time to performed of assisting in farrowing, castration and iron

injection.The materials needed and what we need to prepared in performing activity.
