If you have no experience, you make minimum wage or very little. The
more experience you have in a field, the more you deserve. The amount
you deserve isn’t set by you, but by society and the corporations that
encompass it. Get some letters after your name and you make more.
A Ph.D. should make more than a B.S. and a B.S. more than a GED. The
more educated you are, the more you’re supposed to make.
People get into network marketing all the time, utterly excited at the idea
of creating something great in their lives, but unfortunately become
paralyzed by fear. The fear of not being good enough, looking silly or
stupid, being made fun of, or bringing a “bad deal” to someone stops
many people dead in their tracks before they even get off the starting
line.
When and if they DO get moving, they have a tendency to go after the
people that are the least likely to do this, and that action is primarily
driven by those fears. We all inherently know we need to bring good
people into our business if it’s going to work. Everyone knows that
success requires a combination of skills and diligent activity over an
extended period of time. That’s no hidden gem or secret.
Those that most people contact and engage in conversation with are
people that could USE an opportunity or NEED one. They then avoid
speaking to the best people on their list…the ones that are more likely to
really DO something with it if they choose to engage. This avoidance
procedure is driven by fear.
It’s kind of like this. Banks don’t give money to you when you need it.
But…they will freely give it to you when you are qualified and aren’t really
desperate for the money. I don’t like it either…but it is the way it is.
Once someone goes UP the socio-economic chain one time, they quickly
discover that this is actually far easier than going after our broke friends
and family. I’m not at all suggesting that you don’t get to everyone on
your list that you know.
Nor am I saying that people who NEED a positive change in their lives are
incapable of doing something with it. But, certainly don’t avoid the high
quality people who have a proven track record of upward mobility in their
lives from looking at your business. Those individuals have the greatest
influence and biggest capacity to be significant drivers in your business.
So…why professionals?
I’m not saying to not make a list. DO make a list. Make a BIG list.
Include everyone you can…but don’t you DARE avoid the highest caliber
people. Get to them. Show them your business. Let them make their
own determination for themselves whether they see it or not.
Like attracts like. Broke people hang with broke people. Successful
people hang with successful people.
This is typical. Someone creates their warm market list. Those that they
easily and readily engage in conversation with are people that could USE
an opportunity and NEED one. Then…instead of getting to the BEST
people on their list, they avoid speaking to them. This is a common
mistake new people make. They talk to the worst and avoid the
best….the ones that are more likely to really DO something with it if they
choose to engage. This avoidance procedure is driven by fear.
What’s next? Where do I go from here? This is where the mass confusion
begins. And for many, the confusion never ends. What’s next?
Confused? Yea. I know. Most people are confused when they get to this
point. It’s like you just got to the end of the road and there are multiple
forks, none of which clearly point you in the direction you need to go.
I coached a guy recently whose sponsor told him that the ONLY thing
they teach is warm market. That’s great. I am a HUGE proponent of
talking to people you know. It’s the best and easiest place to start.
Warm market is key. But…only warm market?
But…here’s the problem. What happens when you don’t get your
business going big enough with your warm market? Does that mean you
just quit or have to go to another company? What are you to do? This
guy’s sponsor had no answer except “We only teach warm market.”
This poor fella had completely gone through his warm market, yet his
business hadn’t grown enough from the start to be supported by those
efforts alone…and his sponsor is telling him basically that it’s tough luck
for him.
That’s sad if you ask me. In fact…it’s devastating, because now you have
another new person in network marketing who is being led astray and is
being give no guidance.
So…let’s get back to the confusion for a moment. What’s next? Well…
since there is no clear path, people start to do all sorts of things. They
begin to run ads, yet they have no copywriting skills or background in
advertising.
They buy leads but don’t know how to work them. They buy someone’s
“system” or join an affiliate program to help them generate leads. They
join networking groups, troll the malls…or they sit and do nothing and
ultimately fade away and go back to a job that they didn’t like so much to
begin with in the first place.
The reason I recruit pros is because it makes sense. It’s actually pretty
darn easy once someone teaches you the basics of it. It doesn’t require
the ability to analyze click through rates, cost-per-clicks, look at any
advertising metrics, split test copy, or anything else that sounds
challenging. And…it doesn’t cost you anything to continue to do month
after month.
Recruiting pros is something anyone can do once they get through their
warm market and are seeking other methods to keep their business
moving.
Here's what happened to for me. Many years ago I was faced the dilemma
of what to do once I had pretty thoroughly worked through my initial
warm market list. So…I began working purchased leads.
In fact…I was working leads before leads were really even a business in
network marketing. My challenge with working leads was the QUALITY of
the individuals who were responding to the ads.
So…i started reaching out to people that were in sales, were leaders of
teams, were consistently productive and who were already accustomed to
being paid on their own production.
Why?
They were easy to find and easy to talk to. They’re everywhere…in every
city and town in every state and country…all over the world. They do
what we do. They sell. They lead. And…they like making money.
I didn’t need to learn how to build a site or analyze stats. I could simply
pick up the phone and establish a connection with someone and find out
if they were open to my opportunity.
Better yet. My new team members, those that were also moving out of
their warm markets and seeking additional options to generate new
prospects were no longer confused. They had something that they could
immediately implement into their business, without ever skipping a bit.
They had a track to run on.
Do you have any idea how many people I’ve spoken to in the past few
years that are spending countless hours, day and night studying stuff
trying to find or generate leads…only to find themselves completely OUT
of production mode??
I cannot imagine that any network marketer wants their team members
focus elsewhere. No one wants to have their team being distracted, their
focus OFF the ball. But…in today’s technology-laden market, how many
of you know someone who has gotten completely off-track by some
shiny new system that promises amazing results, but ultimately only
distracts them to the point of complete non-involvement in the company
that they got into that system in the first place to help them build?
Crazy…huh?
That tool that was supposed to actually HELP them, really only distracted
them and ultimately pulled their focus in a completely different
direction…away from your opportunity. I know…it’s not good. Are you
beginning to see the picture?
We all want good people in our business. This method immediately puts
you in the driver’s seat by showing you where they are and what to say to
them. No hours of study time. Start doing it today.
I can tell you this. If someone cornered me today and asked “Todd…if
you could only recruit one way for the rest of your life, which way would
it be?”
